Does anyone know what the significant of 8/4 is?

Yeah, that's incredibly wishful thinking seeing that we have 50k deaths already and that's over 3 months away.

Interesting article in the NYT. IT says on March 1 there was 1 person infected. They believe the real number to be 10,000+. While no doubt this thing is far more contagious then the flu is it seems to have a death rate about the same or possibly lower.

The hope has to be we look up and we find out that 50,000,000 had it and didn't even know it.

Yeah, especially when we have averaged almost 30k new daily cases for the last week, which will produce around 2k deaths per day, and those deaths haven't even happened yet. We'll be over 60k in a week or so even if there are zero new cases starting today.

The one hope here is that our testing has gotten much, much better, which would give us fewer deaths per positive test. The positive test figures could remain steady, but the deaths would drop. As of yet, there's been no sign that this is occurring, though.

This is what I’ve been saying all along. Of course it won’t completely stop spread, but it should help slow it.

One perk of injecting disinfectant and spraying bleach on your lungs is that you will certainly have limited opportunity to go out and spread the virus.

I kid, I kid.

The fact that we have a leader who thought it would be ok to inject people with bleach or that Lysol had to tell Americans not to drink their products shows us how dumb we really are.

They have not explained explicitly as to what is the significance of that date.

However, the way I interpret it is, the model can say with certainty that there would be no new infections or deaths post that date for the current wave, if we are able to contain this virus through social distancing measures, and other guidelines. Earlier they had an assumption on the tracking page, saying that the current social distancing measures should be until 5/31. Now they just mention the following - "Current social distancing assumed until infections minimized and containment implemented".
