They are persistant in their quest for people and their money.
I was a member from 1972 to 1974 when I left.
They hounded me down regurely trying to get me to come back and I ended up moving 15 miles away to get away from them.
I hadn't heard from them for decades until the internet came into existence which made it easier to track people down through public records and this year, after 40 years, they have called weekly.
I have had the unfortunate chance to answer the phone when they called and after going back and forth with their manipulative manners, I finally asked them to put me on their do not call list which they routinely ignore.
Thank God that I have caller ID so I don't answer the phone but they still make what I would call patherthic appeals on my answering machine to urgently call them back.
I would consider them psychopathic spirtual stalkers who want to enslave you.
They have arrived at the level of Jehovah Witnesses knocking at your door like you were a feral animal living in spiritual isolation and the what used to be everpresent Hari Krishna's that used to spare change you everywhere you went in Los Angeles and at the Airports.
That level is called, despicable.

I am willing to bet those are pretty common among the rich and famous.
Contract as in 'if you legally marry me, for this amount of time, and agree to conduct yourself in this or that manner, and you agree to not speak of the terms of our marriage and it being a sham (before, during or after), you will receive X amount of dollars in return.'

I remember well Cruise claiming during the promo for his abysmal Valkyrie vanity project that he personally possessed the courage and can-do attitude required to kill Hitler. What a silly little man. As if there are no bad boys in need of a good killing today.

That moment where Cruise salutes Miscavige at the Medal of "Valor" ceremony while a gigantic portrait of Hubbard's fug mug watches over all is pure comedy.

Ridiculous. You don't feel sad because you don't.

I thank God every day I was raised Atheist.

And yes, I remember my SDA ex-wife learning from her church how to perform exorcism to cure those with mental illness. Ain't god great?
Sorry, secular does not equal atheist. The poster has proudly identified as an atheist. There are many groups who organize under that same identification. That is fine, that is their right. Show me what greater good those groups serve, like hospitals and charities, under the banner of atheism. Since there are probably just as many people of faith( and probably a lot more), involved in secular hospitals and charities as there are atheists, your point is baseless. As a separate group, faith based hospitals and charities are numerous. As a separate group, what do atheists offer to humanity, besides self promotion?

I wonder how many atheist lives have been saved at St Francis Hospital in NY, a top cardiac care center. It was founded by Franciscan Missionaries in 1922, the same kind of people of religion disparaged by many atheists. I don't think too many atheists in need of top medical care question the religious commitment of such institutions when their lives are at risk.

I doubt the SDA Church sanctioned exorcisms. Maybe this was more of a personal domestic issue.

It would be interesting if Nicole Kidman would come forward. I think now we know why she left Tom Cruise. But she was probably afraid for her children to speak out at the time and maybe still is.

Religion by intimidation, that's just what Scientology is.
I believe that Tommy C. filed for divorce from Nicole just shy of their 10 year anniversary which would have entitled her to 50% of everything. If I remember correctly, she was shocked and claimed it came out of nowhere. Katie Holmes is the one with all the good dirt, I'm sure. It's my opinion that she refused to sign a confidentiality agreement which is why she walked away with nothing other than child support. She holds that over Tom's head in order to maintain control of Suri's upbringing.

Here's my thing. Having Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirsty Alley etc say bad things about someone has zero impact on me as they are all idiots. Literally. The exact kind of people that Scientology targets.

No, NK was married to him for just shy of 10 years.

I see some people here are aware of Co$ and it's horrible practices. I was glad Leah brought up Shelly Miscavige - while there are many, many examples of $cienos hurting people and separating families, Shelly is probably the most high profile (She is the wife of the #1 is command, "COB").

Lisa McPherson is another heartbreaking story - please research her death (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_McPherson)

Cathriona White is also another very sad story and I hope her family and friends have found peace. Tony Ortega has found multiple links to her and Co$.

For anyone who wonders about Co$'s tax-exempt status: Operation Snow White (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White)

Funny enough, I found that any and all of Co$'s press responses to Leah were juvenile, defensive, and would never be publicly stated by anyone over the age of 15. For being so obsessed with the media and celebrity, you would think they would have better public relations practices. It is very telling that anytime Co$ is questioned about a former member, they go straight into character assassination and never keep it mature and tolerant.

Wow--10 pages of comments and really not a single one that's defending or supporting Scientology...

...add me to the list of non-defenders. It always seemed cultish to me. And I don't see Leah Remini gaining anything by leaving the church. In fact, the potential damage to her career was very great. I'm glad she seems to have landed on her feet OK.

But while I think Tom Cruise has a strange personal life, I do think he's a decent actor who has made some fun/interesting movies.

Also, I remember some news reports that he was questioning his faith shortly after he and Katie broke up... that he was thinking of leaving the church himself. But I guess David Miscavige talked him out of it.

A strong financial backer as well as a big name to go with the support of Scientology? Of course he did everything he could to talk TC out of it.
