Details aside, there is zero difference to say, the Catholic Church.

Organised Religion of any sort, by definition contains a core of brainwashing.

I'm not religious, but feel compelled to write that there IS a big difference between Scientology and most other organized religions. Most other religions don't actively go after and harass people who decide to leave the religion. Most other religions don't compell people to constantly pay money for religious texts. Most other religions don't take children away from their parents. Most other religions don't compell adherents to constantly rat one another out for punishment and re-training. It is really much more like a totalitarian political system than a religion.

I've also never been a Remini fan, as I don't like loud east-coasty pushy people and that is how she comes off to me. But I do have great respect for her public rejection of Scientology. And what she says makes total sense - if you have believed in something so all-encompassing for the majority of your life then of course it's going to take many years before you stop talking and obsessing about it.

I still don't understand why Tom Cruise continues to get work. He's not that great an actor, and there are plenty of other guys who could do the action movies that are his stock in trade. Let's all take a stand against Scientology and stop going to see Tom Cruise movies.

Even without knowing this, I got the feeling something iffy happened with the investigation.

Sooo, Shelly was changing schedules so that her hubby didn't hang out with Tom so much. Gay rumors true? I can't think of another reason she'd object to Cruise, but I don't know the guy so maybe there is another explanation.

I'm not a fan of organized religion either, but the above simply is not true. Scientology is closer to Moonies or Jim Jones than a religion. It is based on Aliens not Jesus.

Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Taoism are not based on any Jesus either.

I don't think Catholics are as brainwashed as Scientologists. You're free to leave and you will not be shunned if you choose to do so - - and you will be welcomed back if you decide to come back the church again.

One thing that stuck out to me was the letters from the Scientologists, there responses to her coming out were like a pissed off, immature teen ager, saying that she was stupid, and they are glad she's gone.

I love Leah Remini and really love her now. She is taking a beating from Kirsty alley and tom Cruise and the like, but she seems to rise above it, I am glad she got out while she could, hope nothing "happens" to her though.
