Won't be nearly as bad this year as it was last year. I think we'll start getting some flurries around December 15, and no major accumulation until mid January (unless you can't an inch a "major accumulation" but I don't). Also unlike last year where we just got battered with 1 storm after another after another for 3 week span, then we got nothing, it'll be more spread out this year; I like the last major snow fall to happen around beginning to mid March, then a couple days of flurries here and there until around the 20th. I think the most snow I'll get in 1 storm in Trumbull is 6.5 inches, and total for the winter around 20 inches.

White Christmas this year.............................................. ...........but I saw that every year. Even a blind squirrell finds a nut once in a while, sooner or later I'll have to be right

Not sure about snow (if there is any it won't stick, it's been too warm) all I know is that it's going to be damn cold, I saw the high on Saturday could be around 47, BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Also, have to thank Cambium back when we had the hurricane to sign up for weather alerts from the weather channel. That 7 day forcast for me has been a lifesafer.

NWS is back to that crazy "partly sunny with a 30% chance of rain/snow" for Saturday (they were at "cloudy with 60% chance" earlier today)......maybe the weakening of Rina means they think "our storm" is going OTS instead of being pushed up north!

I’ve been so busy this week I’ve not been following this sat rain/snow storm. I just checked the NWS upton, and the current thinking is that most of the precip will stay south of the Tri-State area. Only eastern Long island and southeast CT might see any precip, and with temps expected to be near 50 F in these areas on Sat, mostly rain is expected and maybe some wet snow showers after the low pulls out to sea.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
750 PM EDT WED OCT 26 2011

ALL EYES IN THE LONG TERM WILL BE ON A DEVELOPING COASTAL
SYSTEM...WHICH IS FORECAST TO TRACK SOUTH AND EAST OF LONG ISLAND
SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. 26/12Z NAM KEEP MUCH...IF NOT ALL OF
THE PRECIPITATION OFFSHORE. THE 26/12Z GFS HAS MUCH OF THE
PRECIPITATION OVER LONG ISLAND..AND LITTLE TO NO PRECIPITATION
NORTH AND WEST OF NYC. THE 26/12Z ECMWF CONTINUES TO BE THE MOST
AGGRESSIVE BRINGING PRECIPITATION TO THE ENTIRE CWA. HAVE FOLLOWED A BLEND OF THE GFS/ECMWF. EXPECT POPS TO BE HIGHEST ACROSS LONG ISLAND AND EASTERN CT....AND LOWEST NORTH AND WEST OF NYC. ALSO THINKING SURFACE TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY WARM ENOUGH FOR MUCH OF THE PRECIPITATION TO REMAIN IN THE FORM OF LIQUID. SOME SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY AS THE STORM EXITS...HOWEVER NO ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED.

.

Yes,I just saw this tonight. My station low so far has been 39 F a week or so ago. Coastal CT seems to not be in this freeze watch (as of right now at least). However, I have several plants/palms on the patio and along walkways that can only take 28 F or so for a few hours (one is Trachy f.). So it matters alot if the low in the next few days falls to 31 - 33 F....or below 30 F which will kill them. One of the sure signs the warm season is over here on the southeast coast of CT/Long Island - is when all our potted plants have to be taken into the greenhouse. I fear that time is coming very soon.

Saturday Storm Update

We're now just 72hrs(3 days) away from the storm.

Good news is Models starting to all agree.
Bad news is they all shifted West closer to coast.

The Euro again went nuts strengthening the storm to a 992mb low(strong storm) about 225 miles SouthEast of Long Island.

Especially in October Watches and Warnings wont be issued until hours before. And remember.... Even is surface is mid-upper 30s, if the snow falls hard enough and long enough it will accumulate. Always eliminate the first 2 inches.

Default Saturday October 29, 2011 Storm

Steve DiMartino video this morning... A meteo who never hypes..

At 3:00 he starts talking about Saturdays storm… Intensifys off NJ coast and moves up. ”Traditional NorEaster”, Elevations above 1000 feet keep an eye out.
If winds are setup just right and could produce surprising snowfall totals.

7:00 talks about next weeks storm and same setup..

Forecast Discussion for October 27, 2011.mp4 - YouTube

Now I'm back to the snow idea again but a high elevation snow just like October 25, 2005 which had power outages because leaves were stil on trees..
