December 8, 2011 Storm Summary:

Storm ended 1 hour sooner. Moved much faster and warmer temps won the battle with this one. 50mph wind gusts reported.

Here's a map of snow totals by NWS Boston.. I saw snow on cars on the road this morning probably from higher elevations... It was a non event but a couple inches fell in NWCT.

Im sure Mt. Bear and Frissel at 2400 feet saw more then 2 inches accumulate.

But like I said a few days ago this storm wasnt going to be a big deal and that the highest total anywhere wouldnt be more then 6". Once track moved West more I knew Flooding and rain totals would be more of an issue in CT.

Anyway - Moving on. Nothing worth noteing until the 18th something could pop up. Sunday coldest day of weekend.

Anyone have thoughts or anything to report?

CL&P currently has more than 19,300 power outages across Conn. from our overnight storm.

Storm rolls through Connecticut, knocks out power

Simmons said "If all the rain that fell overnight had been snow, Connecticut could have seen 20-30 inches accumulate".

----------
Another Source: "At its peak, more than 7,000 customers were without power on Long Island. About 4,000 were reported in New Jersey, and Connecticut had almost 19,000 outages statewide. "

Much cooler day today on the East Coast after the rainstorm passed last night and brought in some cool air. Yesterday at this time Savannah was 78 F and NYC was 62 F….and here are the current highs right now:

One other note…the rain seems to have disappeared for the Thur forecast across the Tri-State. So it looks like we could see dry weather and sunshine right to December 17th. Here is the NWS forecast:

NWS New York, NY
Point Forecast: New Haven CT
41.32°N 72.94°W
Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 30. West wind between 8 and 13 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Southwest wind between 7 and 14 mph.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45. North wind between 9 and 13 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 41.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 50.

I wonder what NOAA looks at when putting out long range maps..or maybe its just a guess. because no long range is set in stone.

Here's one of the long range models for Christmas Eve... Brrrrr These are afternoon temps.

One word... - Stratosphere.

Here is next Friday forecast.....looks like highs will get into the 50's....in the Tri-State area. It looks like half of December will already be gone with little cold and no snow to show for it.

Weather the next 4 days..looks like normal winter weather to me. Its early December, the fact we are even TALKING snow at this time of year shows how much more predominant snow has become in the northeast. Usually we dont see snow until mid to late December at the earliest. You spitting out normal weather as a warm weather win is silly really..
