December 8, 2011 Storm Update:

2 things I notice this season with the models.
A. They overestimate the cold air in the long run(ends up warmer).
B. Its actually colder then foreasts show at night.

With that said...new data coming out shows it being colder then thought...

This is the data for BDL(Windsor /Hartford)

1st Column Date and Time.
2nd Column Surface Temps
3rd Column Layer above us

This is telling us that surface and temps above us are below freezing and that snow is falling.

At .41"qpf that would mean about 3-5" early morning tomorrow.

I preach about a storm moving east/west with its track hours before...Is that whats happening???

I'm glad the local news meteorologists didn't over-dramatize this storm all week long. It was nice to turn on the TV and hear rain being forecast as opposed to another winter storm. That would have made traffic and tempers even worse, with people running out for milk and bread.

Excellent video by Steve D if you're interested. Goes over in detail whats happened, happening, and will happen. mentions this weekend is beautiful for NFL football. Mentions what 7Wishes talked about the storm Saturday which is nothing. Goes over the snow map at the end. And goes over the critical lines which I posted last night. 11 minutes but worth it.

Most of us will be sleeping if any white stuff does fall.

Between Irene and the October Nor'easter, my feeling is they are all hyped out for the time being!

Current temps... You can easily depict where the CT Valleys are when the 50s are trying to hold on. Pretty cool here.

We had heavy rain and high wind here along the eastern Connecticut coast, but things have really calmed down today and the sun is back out. Overall, the low pressure area behaved pretty much as expected, though the track was just a little farther north. So almost all areas had rain, even across most of the interior. We did quite nicely from a meteorological perspective - boundary layer temperatures took a long time to cool to the point at which snow could fall, let alone stick.

Otherwise – we now enter a long period of dry and sunny weather with normal temps with highs in the 40's and lower 50's.as I mentioned, the pattern we seem to be in will allow the cold air to come and go very quickly in most areas of the USA. So by Tuesday, temps will modify once again and much of the USA should have temps back to near normal for this time of year…..with highs in 20’s/30’s in the northern Plains….the 40’s and 50’s on the Tri-State/Middle Atlantic and southwest high country (Nothern New Mexico, northern Az…etc)….and in the 60’s and 70’s in the subtropical Gulf and south Atlantic states (Miami should crack 80 F again much of next ). Other than maybe some rain showers on Thursday (Dec 15th),

Overall, I see a really dry and sunny pattern for the next 10 days across the East Coast. .
