I see a bunch of school districts closed this morning due to the "threat" of 2-4" of snow...when did CT become this wimpy??

I hear what you are saying, but I think it's a matter of safety. Where I live it's pretty hilly. Last year during an unexpected snowstorm with only a few inches of snow on the ground, my son's school bus got stuck in the snow. A town snow plow had to come out to clear the road for the bus. Once you get off the main roads, in many towns the roads aren't as frequently plowed.

I only feel the "sprit" on a June day when it's 83 F in Central Park, the dew point is 67 F...and the Atlantic from Rhode Island to Miami is over 80 F...and all I can see in the distance is this:

East Beach, RI by the way.

That's the spirit!

I agree, it's a little ridiculous. I can see early dismissals, but to close 5-6 hours before the moderate snow is supposed to begin? Wow ... lol.

I don't see why we even provide buses. In both Branford and Oxford, I've noticed buses leaving the schools virtually empty. Behind them, you see a row of SUVs.

I guess it depends on the town. If I lived in Branford or Oxford I'd be complaining to the BOE once budget time came around. Thanks to budget cuts where I live though, the buses are often overcrowded. But sometimes our bus will arrive, and while it looks empty, the younger children are too low to be seen through the windows. I'll be thinking, "wow, there are few kids on the bus today", but then the bus stops and little heads pop up.

It seems like the second tier towns along the coast were the ones that closed and that the southwest coastal towns were on early dismissal.

No towns in the Hartford area closed but I just got an automated call that Glastonbury schools will have early dismissal today. I am sure my kids will be happy to get out early. I just hope this is not another one of the storms that veers off the coast at the last minute. Last year that happened and we got nothing after the school systems paniced and closed down before even on flake came down. We will see. Jay

Just can't win. Either they are called wimpy or they are hounded for not thinking safety for children first.

People are funny to me.

Really? I see it as the seasons feed upon each other. The cold allows the summers to be different , something to look forward to. If it was always summer then it would be boring and it would get old fast. The only season I hate HATE up there is spring. MArch - June is just painful. Wet, cold , then hot then cold...possible snow when you are sick of it the first half. Then comes allergies. Hate those 4 months. The other 8 I'll take over here in the south.
