**UPDATE JANUARY 25-26-27, 2011 BLIZZARD**

Ok.... 3 Models.... 3 GIANT Storms... How can we say this gently.... If the track stays where it is...Start food shopping now...If you have the money, buy a snowblower...

At 2+ inches of precip its either going to be 2+ feet of snow or massive flooding...Take your pick!

Currently its sleet to start then all snow for 36hours.

One model right now shows it stalling over us and snowing from Tuesday Night to Friday Afternoon! Wind blown snow too.

oh joy...
i think id rather the 2 ft of snow over flooding (bethel has done a good job of clearing the main roads, but the drains are all still covered)...but neither are particularly appealing...
the good news is i think ive got enough food in my cabinates to see me through till spring :P

Does anyone remember the SuperStorm of March 1993?

Lets see..

1993: It was March .... mild air across the region prior to storm .. Suns angle higher in sky.. Warm ocean waters to our East..... ALL POINTLESS because a Massive Snowstorm landed on us.

2011: Arctic Air, teens, 20s and real feel of near 0.... Sun angle is still low...Ocean temps are cooler... Bonus Snowpack on ground....

For anyone thats interested...Here's the track of that storm... This track looks like rain to me but...It wasn't.

And here's the radar.. Still looks like it would rain along the coast..lol

Here's the Result... Cat5 Snowstorm.

My above post is soley to show that no matter what we think...a storm will do what it wants and when it wants... To base a forecast or a chance of something on the suns angles or ocean temps or leaves on trees or average temps climbing, or how many fruit loops you ate...is completly and utterly pointless...

Lets watch each storm as it happens because ANYTHING can happen.

Who would have thought a 1-2 foot snowstorm would happen after people were enjoying warmth and sunshine back then.

**JANUARY 25-26-27 UPDATE**

I might as well tell you about each run of the model on this storm... INSANE ..

New model just out 1:30pm... Stays cold enough to support snow but will mix with rain in between and back to snow.. Over 2" of liquid in PA, NYC, CT. Which equates to 20-26" of snow

I'm not making this up folks... Get ready if this verifys.. This looks to be a giant, intense storm. Any Shift to the East from this run will be an HECS for us.

Yes, the weather will always do what it wants. However, in terms of weather extremes, keep in mind that it can be spun in both directions. Take just this past March (2010) in the Tri-State area. Using NWS Bridgeport data:

• Only 0.1 inches of snow fell all month…
* Mean temps averaged 5.0 F ABOVE NORMAL…
• On 7 of 31 days the daily high hit 60 F OR HIGHER…
• On more than half the days the daily high was over 50 F…
Parts of Connecticut/NYC were near 70 F on March 20th, 2010.

So the extremes can be spun in both directions.

However, the fact remains the solar is getting higher... and higher... and higher…etc. Nothing can change that now...

Your point?

I thought we were talking about this upcoming storm.

TWC discusses 2 senarios. I guess Out to Sea is not a senario with this one..

Like I said... PICK ONE: Massive Flooding or 2 Feet of Snow with Blizzard Conditions?

Another East Coast Storm Looms! - weather.com

Scenario #1: Low tracks farther inland
- Cold air (i.e., subfreezing air) may give way, especially near the coast.

- Sleet, freezing rain (with potential ice accumulations), or rain may fall along/near the I-95 corridor for a period of time, reducing total snowfall amounts there.

- Heaviest snow totals: farther inland over the interior Northeast.

- High winds, downed trees/powerlines, power outages, would be a given, particularly if there is significant ice accumulation, due to the force of wind plus the weight of accumulated ice.

- Coastal flooding

- MAJOR travel disruption (airports, roads) over a wider area, given heavier snow totals inland, and potential ice accumulations.

Scenario #2: Low tracks offshore, near the coast

- Cold air (i.e., subfreezing air) remains locked in place.

- Heaviest snow and blizzard conditions along I-95 corridor. Lighter amounts in the interior Northeast. Somewhat similar to Christmas Weekend blizzard.

- High winds lead to downed trees, power lines, power outages and coastal flooding.

- MAJOR travel disruption (airports, roads)

I almost want to go back home to Montreal. They're having a very mild winter with very little snow/ice/crap accumulation.
