Wait . . . now higher amounts for Northern CT, instead of higher at the shore?? I'm so confused . . . Wondering what tomorrow's witching hour will be? Any thoughts as to when I should hightail it out of Stamford and head home to New Fairfield? Maybe I shouldn't go in at all and just call it a 4 day weekend

Never mind -- our posts just crossed^ I misread your post before this last one -- I thought it said 8-10 for my neck of the woods and 6-8 for Stamford area.

Anyone want to make bets on school closings?

The temperatures (i.e. too cold for salt to be effective), timing and intensity of this sounds very much like the Jan 2-3 storm (though it sounds like the north will get less this time but who knows?). So my prediction is most will:

- Early dismissal tomorrow
- Close on Wednesday (like Jan 3 it will probably clear up mid-morning but cleanup will take awhile due to the cold temperatures)

Now if the timing shifts earlier (like starts at sunrise), then my thought is closures Tuesday and delayed openings on Wednesday. We'll see......haven't seen ANYTHING posted yet (nor expected to, especially since today is a holiday, which I just realized is ANOTHER coincidence from the Jan 2-3 storm (the "day before" being a holiday, though more businesses are closed on New Years Day than MLK Day)) but it looks like New Britain has already established a parking ban, etc.

I'll always Agree to a certain extent but its the details. We're not supposed to expect details like that 1-2 weeks in advance. (not yet at least). Models DID have the storm, just not right location, amount of liquid, and strength. Those are huge in details. Huge.

Posted January 13th (8 days before tomorrows storm). Timing included in details of course.

Not bad by GFS and EURO!

NWS Boston raised the totals as well and issued the 2nd Blizzard Watch of the Season for Cape Cod area. Wow!

Na I agree.... we have to understand how to look at long term to be able to appreciate it. This one was surprising in that the 3-5 day really didn't see it.

Get off the roads by 7pm maybe even 5pm(sunset).. Wont know until looking at radar tomorrow. Just bad bad timing on this one.

I think heaviest snowfall will be 7pm to midnight where there might be 2 inches on the ground then all of a sudden in a couple hours there's 4-6"+

A shift of 30 miles either way makes such a difference..so tough to forecast when you think about it.

Nice prediction. It looks like single digits again for Tuesday night-- something mysteriously similar to our storm a few weeks ago... The day after our last storm, schools were closed, so I expect schools to cancel due to snow/wind chill. Wednesday, regardless of how much snow we get, looks brutal. Tuesday, looks safe right now, IMO. I think high schools have finals and get out early to begin with. I think Tuesday looks like it clears the storm.

I work until 5:00.....think I should have enought time before the mayhem kicks in? I already prepped my wife that we may have to leave early (3:30-4:00) if it is bad at that time. We will see.

Wow, I've been out of it apparently. This morning the forecast showed sunny today and tomorrow and some flurries on Wednesday. Now I'm watching these posts and the weather, may be an early day at work tomorrow depending.
