But short-term the question is -- if CT cannot retain its educatees, then what's the point of even boasting a high-ranking education, however flawed its yardstick is?
The more one is educated the more "ONE"* makes in income. Only conservatives* who are trying to BS the public would argue against that. "ONE" would be Per Capita but I will throw in Household Income too.

February of 2022
Most Educated States.................Per Capita Income Forbes 2021 (which you dispute)
1 Massachusetts..................................... 2
2 Connecticut....................................... .1
36 Florida........................................... .32

Per Capita Income
#1 CT
#2 MA
#26 FL

Household Income
#2 MA
#3 CT
#27 FL

The above Per Capita and Household income IS NOT conjecture. It is pure math from tax filings.

"Access to federal individual income tax return data is vital to the U.S. Census Bureau's income and poverty estimates. Each year, the Census Bureau receives selected items of information from all Form-1040 tax returns."

For the record I am an Independent and in money matters I lean to the right. I believe more right than the Republicans.

1) I am TOTALLY against what Biden did with the school loan forgiveness.
2) I would not cut taxes all the time like the Republicans, nor would I raise taxes and hand out the money like candy. I would PAY DOWN THE DEBT. I am the true conservative when it comes to money.

There is zero doubt that Connecticut and the other New England states do a phenomenal job at public K-12 education. But education does not stop at 12th grade. If you look at rankings for public higher education institutions, the south fares much better. The quality of state flagship universities, in particular, is outstanding in the south as compared to the northeast.

I know all about this. I have hundreds of realtives (going up towards 1000) in CT. Let me tell what the realtives are saying as they leave for FL full time. They do not want to pay ANY taxes and they certainly don't want to pay taxes to educate other people's children in FL even though they and thier children enjoyed great school systems while living in CT.

EDUCATION IS THE KEY.........and it will only get worse in the future if the people flocking to FL don't want to help educate those kids in the state. And all those other low tax havens.

That’s because they are cheap. Doesn’t make them good. If you look at the top colleges in the country, 8 of the Top 20 are in the northeast. Highest concentration in the country. Jay

JBGreen makes a great point, he really does, because the link includes everything for everyone, the ordinary man.
Your link just points out the top ranked strictly reserved only for the top 1%ers or those with abnormally high intelligence. Those aren't for normal everyday personnel.

I specifically stated public institutions. Southern states have very solid university systems- especially their flagship schools which are, by and large, ranked higher than northeastern flagship schools. It is not just based on their cost as they rank higher academically as well.

For the 9th consecutive month this year Connecticut has added jobs. September added 4,400 jobs lowering the unemployment rate to 4%. That’s full employment. Great news. Jay

Higher education / i.e. college education is a good example to learn from. We are comparatively top in the world, even with the Feds muddying the water with college loans. Meanwhile our grade and high school education performs comparatively poorly.

And we pay way too much for this poor performance. So, eventually we will fix it.

The big difference again is that private universities lead the way on higher ed. While public schools are dominant in lower ed. Do the math, which systems humans really need to emulate!!

Times are changing, so CT as entrenched as it is in left-wing policies may the laggard in education reform. So CT people, don't count your chickens just yet. Times are changing....

IMHO, this is due to history of the north versus the south. In the northeast, continuing education at colleges and universities was expected for more people since colonial times. Thus there was the early founding of private universities. In the south, that wasn't an expectation and the need for private institutions wasn't there. It was up to the local governments to establish them.

I know what you said and as I said cost plays heavily into that ranking. Read the ranking explanation. That’s why there are separate lists for public and private colleges and universities.

The northeast, particularly New England, is known for its very high quality higher education institutions. No where in the country has as high a concentration of them. That includes three public universities that rank on the Top 30 public universities. UConn is one of them. It ranks at No. 26. That’s pretty good overall. Jay

You’re not wrong, but overall, the public universities in states like FL, GA and CA way outrank the public universities in Connecticut. A huge percentage of the students who go to those elite Northeast (Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Brown) schools are foreign born, and the rest are majority out of state. The public universities have a much higher percentage of in-state students, so that means a college bound teenager in California will have access to much better in-state public universities than a college bound teenager in Connecticut.

I say this as a Connecticut public university graduate.
