The Great Lakes is quite far for me on the coast of Connecticut east of New Haven...like 250 miles - lol, but I get what your are saying. As cloudy as the Great Lakes are, I think they still see more sun hrs (annually) the PNW. As one who likes sun (warm or cold) - that would be the toughest adjustment for me between the East Coast and the upper West Coast. I hate long overcast periods

Here's a NYC heat island twist...

2pm temp in NYC is 66° right now. Normal high is 84°

The highest they got to during the heat was was 14 above normal.

Considering this isn't a "cold wave" 18 below is pretty interesting

I meant compared to the PNW, like you can drive to it within a day, LOL!

Technically the PNW is correct, but the Great Lakes are not far behind:

Cloudiest Cities in US - Current Results

I remember when I lived in Cleveland and would fly home after a business trip. There were so many instances where the flight path was clear & sunny, and yet there would be a cloud deck hugging the immediate Lake Erie shoreline. I used to appreciate this in the summer as it kept the temps down...only averaged 8 days > 90 F per year if I remember.

Upton rain total forecast map. Funky strip. lol. Just the way the moisture is lined up.

Surface map shows the front stalled off the coast and the North Carolina coastal Low about to move up. Hence the clouds and rain today. Winds at the surface and 4000' are from the Northeast. So the air is staying cool but meanwhile winds past 7000' are from the south pushing the moisture up.

High Pressure feeding cooler air, Low pressure feeding the moisture. Cool stuff. Also... Last week on Thursday the cold front never made it to the coast and just dissolved. This time it made it and pushed off shore.

These fronts will continue to do so and get stronger as we move forward. Times are changing now. lets see if its to normal or back to how we were in the Spring.

Danbury & Windsor Locks July temp data. When the max is near the normal lows you know it was unseasonbly cool that day. :-)

Future radar loop of the weak coastal storm riding up the coast. The bulk of it will miss us. Notice the next cold front pushing across the U.S .

So that's gotta stir up the ocean a little bit at least
