Here's the current Site 5 appearance. I'm no tree hugger, but it be nice to be able to keep those two great trees on the complex (or at least the one on the side of the current structure). I wouldn't save them to spite progress though.
Can you imagine what crime in the parking deck will be like? It's like a crook's dream come true. They rob and rape you in broad daylight downtown right now; imagine how well they can do inside a concrete structure. The city better budget for a few more positions in the PD as 24/7 armed guards if they build this thing.
I watched the meeting last night but stopped listening to Carl after he said that our existing parking lots only stay 60% full. If this is the case why do we need a parking deck? ECU needs a few decks... that's about it.
Because the only progress that ever happens downtown is the city government spending tax money. It would be nice to open this thread and see private development for a change.
Well you do have a point and both those things did happen in broad daylight so I withdraw my Fox comment. However I do not believe its fair to make such a statement as if rape/robbery in broad daylight is the running norm downtown. I just hope the parking deck is worth the money spent to build it and looks nice once complete.
Are any renderings available for the parking garage? It's better to build it now, while it may be under utilized in the future it will be used and remember the cost of construction only keeps increasing so I say it's a wise investment only if they really have a plan to revitalize downtown.
