Baltimore at 51 (The Baltimore Sun tracker hasn't been updated). At the same point last year there were already 68.

As the article said nonfatal shootings are also down 28%.

Hopefully this starts a downward trend in the city. At 8.8/100k so far it's still double of Dallas which is having a bad year so far (~4.35/100k) or Chicago (using the 104 number...which translate to ~3.86/100k) and Houston (~2.75/100k).

Baltimore deployed effective Strategies in the Western District last year that led to a decrease in gun crime. They took that initiative further afield this year. and will expand citywide

Following the Pilot in the Western District, GVRS Will Now Expand to Baltimore's Southwestern and Central Police Districts in Q1 of 2023 Before Ultimately Scaling Citywide

Those cities will /should always be lower than Baltimore but it is def lower than NO and St louis. Its really depends on how it compares to Detroit and Memphis.

In what could be some positive news, I went back and looked at the date when I posted that Cleveland was already at 21. That was on Feb. 7 (though I'm not sure if it included a couple of others that happened around that same time). Anyway, worst case, that was at least 21 in the first 31 days of 2023 (a pace if continued was putting Cleveland on an unstainable rate of finishing with 247 for the year).

Since then, off the top of my head, I can't recall reading of any in the city since (though I'm sure there have been at least a couple). But I'd be surprised if the city was now over 30. If so, would put Cleveland back on a 150ish pace, which unfortunately is still sky high but would be another improvement from the past two years. But it's still way too early to really get a sense of what the next 9.5 months will bring.

Akron-area, on the other hand, has been all over the local headlines. Last week, a man in North Hill was shot to death chasing away someone who was trying to break into his house; on Monday they found three bodies bound, gagged and shot to death; yesterday, a woman was woman found dead next to her car in suburban Tallmadge (police are mum on that outside of saying "suspicous"); and also yesterday an 18-year-old was shot and killed in South Akron.

I'm reading between the lines and thinking the triple homicide and the one in Tallmadge with the woman are related because of how mum officials are on them. To me, it sounds like a targeted cartel hit. In the triple homicide, they have taken a "former" drug lord into custody, but no other arrests ... oh and there was also an intended fourth victim there who escaped. The victims were all from Youngstown but shot to death in Akron. My guess is there was an order to tie up some loose ends and the only person in custody (who spent 7 years in prison for running a multi-state drug organization) isn't talking. It could be also why police are not releasing anything on the woman either.

Those could all be tied to this (the dots in Ohio look to correlate with Akron, Canton and Youngstown)

San Francisco 8
San Jose 4
Oakland 22

Oakland was 120 total last year for a 27/100k rate, highest in California.

San Francisco had 55 total last year, up from a pre-COVID total of 41.
