PG county is now at 26 murders....
Last year it had 89 murders, but if things keep up PG will have at least 106 murders (all of which are concentrated inside the beltway), probably more since PG county is getting worst and more crime infested because of D.C.'s gentrification.
What are you talking about? This year it is 65, last year it was 75 through the end of the month (so we're basically the same), and at times from the 1970's through early 2000's it easily would have been more than twice those numbers. I'm not even making any judgement calls, I'm just saying where it's at and where it's been. It's the lowest in 50 years. How do I have issues?

250 to 300 in the first 3-4 months? That was a warzone back in the day... That led to peoples thinking still now that the US is a no mans' land.

lol, I never even gave any emotion or opinion on the subject. I simply stated where it was and the overall trend the past 15 years. I'm from Iowa where my city and the one right north of us would see maybe 2-3 murders for 400,000 people, and the capital saw 5 murders for a metro of 550,000 - so I think it's pretty high. That's why I was confused when you said I had issues. I'm not the one out there killing people!! Regardless it's all so concentrated here, in my 10 years I've never known anyone who's been murdered, or even been close with anyone who's known anyone who's been murdered. My area of 300,000+ people sees maybe 1-3 murders a year.
So far this year 17 out of the 25 police districts in Chicago have seen 14 of its murders through February, 5 other districts have tallied up 18 murders, and the worst 3 districts have 20 murders total. Generally the more densely populated areas have fewer murders, while some of the most violent districts have pretty low populations.
17 districts: 0.8 murders on average
5 districts: 3.6 murders on average
3 districts: 6.7 murders on average
That relates to your comment about "war zone", which I've heard a lot from European friends and coversations I've had over beers with people in bars overseas. It sounds so beyond awful, rightfully so, but I think people just don't understand how extremely physically segregated crime can be in the USA. Even back in the day when you had nearly 1,000 murders in Chicago, a vast majority of them were in very select areas of the city. I think it's why there wasn't more outrage, and why there isn't more today. In any given metro area, 90% of people can live day and night without really worrying about crime, especially violent crime.

High murder rates in areas with high poverty is just something Americans accept as a fact of life. Kinda like how Canadians accept that they have frigid winters. There's not much any individual can do about it on a day to day basis.
