compton is not going to finish higher than st louis or birmingham. compton's rate was only in the low 20s per 100,000 last year, compton's been dropping a ton.
We were up by over 30% by the end of January, then things were flat with last year for the month of February, and then things really died down in March compared to March, 2010. Year-to-date we're now 11% below last year. Suppose to be the mid-80's on Sunday though, that always brings out a crowd.
From March 2nd through April 6th there were 23 days in Chicago without any murders. That's very quiet for a city that averages more than 1 per day. It is always quieter in fall/spring compared to summer though. Still, that's quiet for any time of year. Only 2 murders in the past 11 days.
Back in 2003 we already had 121 by the end of March!
not to knock chicago's progress, but it did have a huge blizzard in february. plus rain and storms for spring. hasn't chicago been having some bad rain and storms recently? i heard there were some big storms over there the last few weeks. it's great that it's seen only 2 murders in that length of time, but that's still so not normal.

2008 = 58.9
2009 = 40.0
2010 = 27.4
Compton has been showing major improvement. It didn't finish in the top ten last year. St. Louis is having an exceptional year so far. Birmingham is ahead of last year.
Crime, especially murder, is a common thing in Baton Rouge. You can probably see that already, and no it's not because of Katrina evacuees. Baton Rouge in 94 was wild.

2007 - 115, year total = 392
2006 - 104, year total = 406
