2000 years ago, the POPULAR opinon of the day in Greece was that when you died, that was it, you ceased to exist !!
Flavius Josephus wrote his discourse to the greeks concerning hades.
It is exactly the opposite of what is being sold here as the truth.
We have all heard of people that die and come back to life and they all talk about this tunnel with the bright light.
Joesphus goes into great detail about this.. and.. the other tunnel !!
Josephus discourse to the greeks concerning hades, is just the scariest thing you will ever read in your life. It makes a stephen king novel look tame by comparison.
this was common knowledge 2,000 years ago, well before dante and the other rubbish I am reading here.. TAKE THE TIME to read and learn the truth !!
Are you asking about the rich man and Lazarus parable?
Well, from cover to cover the bible says there is no consciousness, work, activity, knowledge or thought in Sheol/Hades (AKA - the grave) which is sometimes translated 'hell' in the KJV.
.
The single contradiction to this is Jesus in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. Now, why would that be?
Another problem with an understanding that Jesus is simply referring to what happens to 'lost' and 'saved' people in the afterlife in this story is that NO MENTION is made about faith in God at all - only that the one man was rich and had a good life and the other was poor and had a terrible life.
The idea of 'two compartments in Sheol' and 'instant reward/punishment' theory did not originally come from the Hebrews or their scriptures at all, but the Pharisees had such a doctrine - possibly picked up while the Jews were in captivity to pagan nations. In the Pharisees version - the rich, who were (in their eyes) obviously blessed by God would be carried by angels (also un-scriptural) to their reward in the 'bosom of Abraham' (also a one time mention) while the poor beggars who were (in their eyes) obviously cursed by God were sent into instant fiery torments.
Jesus simply turned their OWN false doctrine upside down on them to show their hypocrisy.
Another huge gaping hole in the unscriptural, unconscionable concept of punishment which never ever ends.

Well laddy, let me assure you that Shana has a lot of incredible company in her well founded belief in the Restitution of all things. You are surely not interested in the William Laws & George MacDonalds, or countless others who stand with Him, so we will bid you adieu.
Scripture advises "do not continue to cast pearls among swine".....Hell is real and I assure you....... you will be sadly surprised on the day of judgement........REPENT NOW while you can......Regards and so long Vessif
no more opinions show it in scripture. more scripture and less opinions. I'm enjoying this thread. But opinions mean nothing. Thanks.
Hi Shawn, as you have been enjoying this thread, but want more scripture here is a link to my blog were I make a rebuttle to Matt Slicks long artical saying Universalism is in error.
Yes, but what did the apostle St. John write? Did he speak of an "eternal hell"? Or, did he write under the unction that death & hell are terminated in the Lake of Theos Pur.
Did he write of the curse being upon all of mankind, and our Father's creation forever? Well, no, he declares that the leaves of the Tree of Life are for the healing of the nations. And there shall "no longer" be a curse upon anything.
ETers want to believe that when you die you either go to Hell or Heaven and quote the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. But that is not about heaven and hell but about Hades and Abraham's bosom.
Also, why don't ETers go to the parable just before the rich man and Lazarus one: the Prodigal Son? He died and went to the pig farm.
So which is it? When we die do we go to the grave? to Hades? to Abraham's bosom? or to the pig farm?

Actually many argue if the Rich man and Lazarus is a parable because it doesn't follow the same format of other parables. I personally don't believe it is and the "pig farm" remark makes no sense.
Eusebius what if you are wrong about hell being eternal as you teach this to many others?
