I don't know of any other show that always stayed on top of the ratings, even their last season. And THEN go into syndication afterwards (for 44 years). Only three members from it's first couple seasons are left now; Ronnie Howard (Opie), Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), and Jim Nabors (Gomer). Sad to see his passing, but he lived a long life. And a good life.

It's one of the great television shows ever-period. RIP, Andy.

Another icon of my childhood has passed. It makes me sad even though I know they have to pass on. Andy Griffith made a show that provided laughs, some sentimentality and a little country wisdom added in.
I can't help but think the show he made was better than the juvenile, sex obsessed, potty mouthed writing that passes for TV comedy today. RIP

Default Andy Griffith was my favorite

What an incredibly sad day. The world lost a great one in Andy Griffith. It's as if a new era has begun, one more foreign and detached, less American, more diluted. If you grew up watching Andy Griffith, you were deeply ingrained with the pure American spirit.

I love Andy Griffith. Through him, I learned what it was like to be a good man, good father, a good friend, and a good guy. I learned what it was like to have integrity. I learned to be humble, but excellent. I learned to be intelligent, with a sense of humor. I learned to look for the good in all people. Watching and just thinking about Andy Griffith, reminded me of the good in the world.

Andy was a great man who impacted the world and made it a better place. He was a man I thought was as close to being immortal as a person could be. Thank God we have his work to remember him by. Just so sad to see him go.

May he rest in peace.

Words cannot express my sadness. I had such a crush on him. And I loved all the characters he played from Lonesome Rhodes to Matlock.

News, Andy Griffith Dead at 86: Ron Howard & Other Stars Remember Mayberry’s Top Cop (VIDEO)

It sounds like we lost another star this morning. Andy Griffith died at the age of 86 according to close friend, former University of North Carolina president Bill Friday. Griffith put the iconic small town Mayberry on the map in his role as a sheriff and father on The Andy Griffith Show. He later starred in the television series, Matlock.

R.I.P. Andy. Classic TV has lost a legend, but his wisdom and humor will live on, especially through the tales of Mayberry.

I have watched The Andy Griffith Show since my childhood.
