Do you think Andy Kaufman was simply brilliant or insane? I think he was a very clever actor and knew how to play on people, and you never knew if you were seeing Andy Kaufman the person, or Andy Kaufman the character

And that requires talent.

What are your thoughts?

Andy was ahead of his time. Either you liked him, or not.

If you are wondering 30 years after his death, I'd say he's brilliant!

I guess in retrospect, upon further thought, his wrestling stuff was hilarious
Maybe I need to edit my first post . . .

Yep and He and Jerry Lawler had to be the greatest stunt ever pulled in Wrestling. They really carried the act and pushed the envelope as far as they could.

I loved him on SNL. He was both brilliant and insane, which isn't uncommon.

Doesn't every straight guy?

Oh, you mean with clothes on, like a sport?

I feel, in comedy, the line between brilliant and insane is really thin and more so, subjective.
Some of his stuff was envelope-pushing and a bit seemingly annoying or childish but some of his bits were downright hilarious.

To me, it seemed like he really got in the character so it was really hard to tell if he was being himself or the character he was in.

How do you not like this character :
