I have never before cried when a celebrity I never even met died. But today I cried at the passing of Andy Griffith. And I realized that I was crying not only for the passing of this good man but also for the passing of the America where comedy could be funny without being vulgar and crude and where we could enjoy primetime tv shows like Mayberry and Matlock without feeling as though we need to go take a shower to wash off the filth after watching. Rest in peace Andy. So sorry for the generation that will grow up without ever having known a time when celebrities could behave with dignity and class.
He'll be missed. Everyone connects Andy to his TV shows but Elia Kazan’s "A Face In The Crowd" was a very good movie. In this movie he was not a very nice guy. He played the bad guy brilliantly. Not to say playing a bad guy is a good thing but that his acting was much more variable than many may think.
