Most people realized by last summer that the chances of getting the virus by touching inanimate objects is fairly low.

It is entirely possible to catch and transmit Covid with a vaccine. They are not 100 effective. Will it make it fairly unlikely, given social distancing and mask requirements in place? Yes. That's the whole point.

Now children being unlikely to catch or spread Covid 19, is extremely debatable. Children locked down at home very much reduced incidents of children getting Covid 19. But many children have contracted it, and a small number have died from it. The science simply shows that children's immune system handles it far, far, better than an obese 80 year old diabetic.
Neither do you yet here you are doing the same exact thing I am.

Yeah and the chances of that, catching and transmitting covid after vaccination, are pretty small like I said.

The numbers for kids are still very small and the effects very mild if any at all.

Considering how much people and businesses are sanitizing things still I don't think that many people realized it.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that on June 15, the state will "fully reopen" its economy and abandon the current color-coded tier reopening system as long as COVID-19 vaccines are widely available to all who want them and hospitalizations remain low.

First, why are Inyo and Merced county still purple?

And why all the sudden does the lingering threat of this fourth surge not factor into the equation? This is yet another chapter of policy not matching prior messaging. I'm almost embarrassed for Newsom/the state's tap dancing routine at this point. Just rescind the emergency order and accept the inevitable (and glaringly obvious) optics of doing it right now.

Ok, and that science won't change. So it begs the question, at what point does the mask edict go away? Never? Because if we base it on actual science, the situation above will never change; everyone who's vaccinated can still transmit it/catch it/spread in perpetuity.

Early data show its about 90% effective in not spreading vaccine. So its still quite possible to spread it. But vaccinated people have yet to give it to other vaccinated people. So me and my vaccinated friends (soon) can hang out all we want mask free "in perpetuity". The bigger point is this will drive down the overall rate. In fact it already is.

A contributor to why the science has seemed to change and why it's been so frustrating to follow.

Even following the science is confusing and frustrating as opinions from scientists varies. Given that and the mutations that are occurring I'm going to continue to wear a mask even though I have received both Pfizer vaccines. My choice, everyone can make their own decision about that.

The cynic in me believes the rates will drop because the vaccine will create more bodies who are simply asymptomatic carriers. The "science" even indicates that's the case (i.e. the vaccine won't prevent people from getting or spreading the virus, but only reduce the severity of it). And with less symptomatic carriers, less people will seek testing, which will further drive down the numbers, albeit deceptively so. In other words some of this is smoke and mirrors sort of stuff. Either way, it's a win for now.

Eh. I don't put a lot of faith in a subcommittee formed by Trump opposition. Besides, none of these political circle jerks change available science and the CDC doesn't even write California policy. This all goes back to the earliest arguments attempting to divert blame from state leadership. You and I disagree on this so it's not worth rehashing it all.

Meanwhile, Newsom is lifting the color tier part of the emergency act conveniently on the day traditional calendar schools will end this year. I'm sure that has nothing to do with the state being enjoined from enforcing those policies and making school districts follow them in their reopening plans which was just recently decided in court. And now with the U.S. Supreme Court saying Friday that the state can't enforce it's bible study gathering rules, the whole program is beginning to fall down. Remember, I was the one who said ultimately this stuff would die in a flurry of litigation and it's happening.

The only thing left for Newsom to do is to quietly pretend the pandemic ended when it obviously hasn't.
