If you notice most older Benz vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in rust free regions like California, Florida, etc, are still on the road while most from the 1990s and 2000s are not. This is all one needs to know regarding the decline of the brand.
Definitely Mercedes. While I'm sure the brand still holds a prestigious image, I've heard that maintenance is horrendous. No wonder it has so many votes
I actually looked into buying a 03 CL600 with the turbo V12, then I realized that a $120,000+ car was selling used for $25,000 8 years later and decided to look into it. Found a ton of horror stories with the active body control suspension and decided to stay far far away.
BMW = still has great driving dynamics, and pretty good styling. The M cars are fantastic.
Audi = slightly lesser driving dynamics, numb feel, but killer styling.
MB = all form and no function. Not driver's cars. They float, like Lexus and Cadillac. Even the AMG's don't handle that well, just have massive torque usually paired with a slushbox.
BMW for sure. They seem to be the typical 'little man' car or the ******* who is going to college on mom and dads dime to just get drunk, party, and sleep with anything that walks past him. They have a lot of good technology in them but when I drove a 545i I did not like it one bit. The interior felt kind of cheap and the driving was way too bumpy. I know it is supposed to be a 'sports car' but it did not feel like one at all and the steering was hard as hell, made me wonder if power steering was even included.
Next experience with BMW is my uncle's 7 series. 2011 BMW 765i. Very nice the nighvision is cool, all the other electronics are nice and work perfectly. The one thing I can not stand is that damn iDrive thing! Who decided that most common controls should be controlled by a weird joy stick that is impossible to use or operate. You are not supposed to use a cell phone while driving how can you take your eyes off the road to operate a damn knob to turn on the A/C?
MB vehicles newer ones seem to have gotten better in quality I know the E and S classes of the 90s were plagued with problems while the 80s tanks still run just fine.
Last would Toyota. Who ever thinks that driving a jellybean that shows you how much gas you saved is something to brag about has something wrong with them. Always seems like Prius owners are glued to that display almost like they are expecting a pat on the shoulder from god.
Lexus will go in hand with Toyota. Why would I pay thousands more for the same car just with leather seats and a L sticker on it?
Glad to see that Nissan wasn't on there... I think they're actually more or less underrated cars. Far more low-key than Honda or Toyota, too. Not as many irritating ads, and my Xterra is bordering on ten years old and has seen some good, hard use... not one problem yet. Aside from rotating tires, getting new brake pads, and oil changes, the most expensive thing has been tires. That's it.
I don't know why BMW gets mentioned so much. All the ones I have had have been superb driver's cars. Superb handling, crisp manual transmissions, great steering. Not many cars like it. These days I prefer the smaller ones because the 5, 6 and 7 series cars are so big and havy nowadays. Having said that, my E39 M5 was a fantastic car (but not without problems). I want a 135i Coupe or 1 series M-Coupe as my next car. Or maybe a used E46 M3.
Most overrated? Hard to say. Don't care that much for Mercedes. Audis are fine but don't like FWD and whilst the quattros are great it's not the same as a RWD BMW in terms of driving peasure.
