I'd actually go with what most people have said here in saying BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac, etc.
It's really only their halo cars (M, AMG, V, S/RS) that are really worth it. Just my opinion, although the new 328i from BMW is actually pretty good, but again, it will run about 40-45,000 dollars with options that should come as expected. Nice car, not sure if it's worth that much though.
I'll agree with BMW and rank Audi as a close second with Mercedes pulling up 3rd place. I have driven a number of cars from these brands and I just don't understand peoples obsession with them.....
Honda. Plastic-fantastic marshmallow Civic, cheap adorned noisy landyacht with a small backseat and trunk family car Accord. The new CRV and Odyssey look uhh well, I don't need to elaborate on that but are otherwise still solid. Honda's idea of a sports car is the poorly done hackjob of a Prius made impractical, aka the CR-Z.
BMW/Mercedes are perennial favorites... but at least in my demographic they're really just badge cars. There used to be something special about Mercedes, it really was perceived as a real cut above from the rest of the luxury pack. Not so much anymore. It's just another luxury car to 20-somethings. They still make some nice cars but the brand premium isn't what it used to be. Same with BMW's ultimate driving machine.
Mercedes Benz; neighbor has been leasing a new one every 6 months. Has money and not much into the mechanical thing. I see a loaner car in the driveway once a week. The new ones have to go back for one thing or another constantly. My 13 year old domestic van has seen the mechanic less than the 6 month old E series.
For the other brands (Honda, Kia, Hyundai), at least they are not claiming that their machines are a work of art. They are just building commuter appliances with decent reliability and for what they want to be I think they are just fine with some hits and misses.
