Looks like NASCAR had to slow Hendrick down before they got to far ahead of everybody else...unbelievable.
NASCAR penalized each of Hendrick Motorsports’ four Cup Series teams, along with the No. 31 team of Kaulig Racing, with L2-level penalties on Wednesday for unapproved parts modifications last weekend at Phoenix Raceway. Each crew chief was fined $100,000 and suspended for four races, and each team was further penalized with the loss of 100 team and driver points and 10 playoff points (with the exception of the No. 9, which did not lose driver points because it had a substitute driver who earns Xfinity Series points).
I guess we are about to find out just how deep that bench at Hendrick is.
If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin"!
In all seriousness, from how Dale Jr explained it, HMS received four parts from the NASCAR approved single source provider. The four "identical" parts, were not identical. So to make them work, the teams had to massage them a bit to get them to fit. NASCAR has even told the teams there would be some leeway in doing that.
The parts were found early Saturday morning after the cars were offloaded. Well before inspection and certainly way before any of the cars hit the track for qualifying, practice or racing.
So I agree with Dale that this penalty is really overreaching. HMS will appeal and I hope they are very successful if what Dale says is correct.
Well.. The wrecks shook things up. Otherwise, yes, you probably would have been looking at the top lane prevailing all the time and pretty close to follow the leader.
So.. If it takes a few wrecks to shake it up.. so be it. Better than what we saw yesterday.
Overall, the start of NASCAR's 75th season has not been great.
Add to that, NASCAR's stupid over reaching penalties are going to hurt them more than they know.
I’m really looking forward to the penalty for Josh Williams.
