It's fair from the fact that the same opportunity applies to all. If Truex or Blaney or anyone else were injured, they'd have the opportunity for an exemption as well.

The injury exemption is extremely important. Again, look back to Ricky Rudd driving with his eyes taped open. That is not a situation that needs to ever happen again. Davey Allison strapping his hand to the shifter. Many examples of this. Thankfully, the usual injuries now are either COVID or a concussion vs what we saw in the 80's and 90's.

I can get behind the argument that there needs to be a limit, perhaps. Which, somewhat there is because they have to be in the top-30. Of course.. With only 36 teams racing now, that's not a big deal. Perhaps that needs to be shaved back to the top 25 now.

Almirola back in the 10 for 23... so theres that . So now we know SHR is a non starter for Kyle Busch. Puts him one step closer to the 45 next year. Kurt is done Kyle moves over.

My hope is it happens before the music stops and Richard pulls the plug on Reddick and hes left with out a Toyota next year.

Well looks like it came down to Preece or Smithfield foods who obviously isnt sold on Preece.
As you always like to say ... Money Talks!
I would note, it is pretty remarkable and a credit to Almirolas character that in these days when you have a Champion, arguably one of the best drivers ever who could lose his ride due to lack of sponsorship and here you have a guy who wants to retire but can't / isn't because the sponsors want him to stay.

Well it wasn't Kimi's fault at all unless you realize that he has always been aggressive to the point of putting himself in harm's way. He could have given up a position only to survive to see the checkers. And 10th, 12th, whatever, is a damn fine finish for the Fin for a one-off deal.

Leave it to a road course to provide good racing.. Well, other than Indy.

Very good race. Again, would have been nice if the Dinger had been able to put some real pressure on at the end, but..

Kurt is now officially locked in to the playoffs. Assuming his exemption isn't pulled.. Which.. If he can't return for the first round.. It should be.

Truex and Blaney finish 23rd and 24th respectively.. Always seems to happen, doesn't it?

Perusing the headlines and race results this morn... Looks like a good day for HMS and Chevy! Toyotas... not so much. Glad to see Larson get another one, sounds like a bit of contention on how he got it with Chase.

Speaking of Truex, what's happened to him, this season? Has he lost interest, or can't the team get a handle on the new car? For that matter, Kyle Busch hasn't exactly had a stellar year, either, but at least he's done some winning.....

he's 6th in points. Any other year, he'd be locked into the playoffs at this point. 25 out of 3rd, 34 out of 2nd.

He's run well.. just not.. Winning well.

He has the extraordinarily bad luck of running well and no winning in a year where there have been 15 different winners. Almost said 16, but Allmendinger hasn't won this year.. Thought he did, but that was last year.

You have to believe that the new car has something to do with it. I don't want to generalize, but @leadfoot, the guys you mentioned are now the seniors out there. If if weren't for Harvick's 2 wins he'd be one that list as well. It happens to guys like Ryan Newman, et al, but add in the changes to the car that these cats having been driving their whole career and one can speculate.

And you happened to pick 2 Gibbs drivers. Hamlin has had an up and down season as well. Bell, the youngest, is 11 points behind Truex with a win while Truex highest finish is 4th. Hard to understand that. Anyway, the 4 Gibbs drivers are all in the top 14 with the top 3 at positions 6, 7 and 9. That's not nothin'.
