On Saturday we drove to Monroe and stopped at the Walmart there for a few things. The big boxes of 5 dozen eggs were $14.99, and the had a whole stack of them.

Before Covid, I was paying $4.50 for that flat of 5 dozen eggs. So price has gone up a lot and the requirement for eggs to be cage free raises the price even more because it costs a lot more to raise them, more space (bigger real estate) and a lot more labor. I was buying the 5 flat to feed to my dogs, but they aren't getting eggs any more.

Prior to the pandemic, there was a general store-type place that sold eggs for 69 cents a dozen, all the time. There were smaller eggs & obviously a loss leader, but still…that’s over now.

Apples to apples, I am about 30 miles from Washington with no cage-free requirement in my state. Today at the market, the cheapest brand of cage free eggs, on sale price, cost $1.40 more per dozen than regular eggs. The cage-free eggs that were not on sale cost almost $3 more per dozen.

OP's original point was that the cage-free law caused an increase in the price of eggs for everyone in the state of Washington. It looks to me like perhaps the increase in the cost of a dozen eggs due to no other factor but the new cage-free law must be somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.40- $3.00 more per dozen eggs.

My point was that everything has cost more, post-pandemic, at least where I live. You either work around it, or you complain.

That's the advice I've gotten from folks who lived through periods of inflation. Adjust your life because nothing else will adjust. So far so good I think.

We can adjust our lifestyle because we have to.
We can also adjust the people and policies that we vote in.

Make sure you don't vote in people who will allow anti-competitive practices so that we still pay more, but all the profit goes to the shareholders instead.

Do you happen to have a j-o-b, or at least a paycheck? That makes 'adjusting-your- life's a little more possible than those beyond employment.

No paychecks or pension here for the last 19 years. WA State / county mandatory spend has increased 4x. Food... Still capped at $100/ month. I'm not buying many eggs. 1 dozen / month is my spending cap.
