There are a few that bring back some really happy memories like Victoria Station and Tony Roma's. And wow, Chippy's too on Miracle Mile, which I think became Sambo's. Believe it or not, I still have a memory at age 50-something of being a little child at Chippy's and spilling my orange soda there. Weird memory, huh? And going to Jordan Marsh always was a treat as an older child. I don't know, there seemed to be something special about it. Do department stores even have restaurants anymore? I know there's a restaurant at Nordstrom's here where I live. It's nice too, but of course never as nice as Jordan Marsh was.

Do any of you have any special stories to tell about these older restaurants, growing up in the 70's or 80's?
I used to go to Chippy's all the time with my parents in the 1960s. BTW, Chippy's didn't become Sambo's; they weren't even in the same location. Chippy's was on Miracle Mile at the intersection with Galiano and is now Miller's Ale House. Sambo's was in a stand-alone building a block away near Douglas and eventually became a Denny's if memory serves.

Right, Jackson/Byrons and Richards. Those were places we used to go too. I don't remember rides on Burdines for the holidays but that was another Burdines from the one I knew. Speaking of the holidays, I remember Holsum Bakery in South Miami and the beautiful displays they had there. All sorts of little towns, railroads, etc.

That's right. Now I remember. Chippy's was on the corner and then became one of the burger places, Burger King or McDonald's when I was there last. So now it's an ale house? How things change. Is the drugstore still there across the street? It was a discount drugstore in the past, on the corner of Miracle Mile and Galiano. Is Sears still on Miracle Mile?

I distinctly remember that I entered in that restaurant more than thirty five years ago looking for a job, the cook was French and was not hiring kitchen help...I believe he closed down. The area was good..but not for a superexpensive place.

This isn't a restaurant only thread, but if you like nostalgia, go through this list and see what you remember. It probably has been posted before on this, or another thread:

Yes, a drug store is still across the street; it is now a Navarro Discount Pharmacy. And Sears is still there in its original location, although technically, it's not on Miracle Mile. "Miracle Mile" ends at the Coral Gables border on the west side of Douglas/37th Ave. Sears is located on Coral Way in the City of Miami.
