There was a restaurant I used to go to with my parents when I was growing up. It was on Coral Way across the street from Sears. The building is still there; has a circular drive. I was reminiscing tonight on the phone with a friend of mine (we both grew up in Miami), and I cannot remember that restaurant's name. It was in the same era as Monk's Inn, which of course was also on Coral Way (same period as the old Studio restaurant). Does anyone remember the restaurant I'm referring to?

So, it's not there anymore? I was looking through Google maps and streetview, but the labels don't show how old the establishments are.

Just in case, these are the restaurants surrounding Sears:

House of India
Havana Vieja
Tarpor Bend
Crepe marker
Sergio's

I hope someone here helps you out.

I think it was where Havana Vieja is now. To my recollection, the building is right next door to a plumbing contractor. What I remember about the restaurant was that one of their salad options was a large wedge of iceberg lettuce. I used to get it with blue cheese dressing. Funny how certain memories stand out in our minds.

Sambo?
Sambo became Denny's.
There was a Havana Vieja, but way up in the 90's near FIU in a strip mall around that area.
Other places in that area, Steak and Eggs or something similar, Zum Alten Fritz and Greek places.
Coral Way was very nice area, many businesses had the "Dinner" style.

No, not Sambo/later Denny's. That one's on the other side of the road (on Miracle Mile/Douglas Rd., I think). Was there ever a restaurant called "The Pub" on Coral Way back then? I wonder if that's what it was called.

Just your mentioning that it made me remember the Caesar salad at The Studio.

The Caesar Salad at the Studio Restaurant on Coral Way- I worked there in the '60's, Duck l'orange-a classic. Does anyone have details on the ONION soup or any other dishes? Leftover French garlic bread was made into croutons and fresh Gruyeure broiled on top of crock. Now it all coming back, and some seafood casarole was big seller

And speaking of the Studio, they had a fantastic dessert bar. I remember going there and spooning chocolate mousse on top of cheesecake and other cakes. The best!

A lot of restaurants are not in that list, a lot...for example, Steak & Eggs and Zum der alte Fritz, both in Coral Way during the middle 70's...There was also a French restaurant that closed in a couple of months. No mention of emblematic restaurants like Lila's, Casablanca, Sarussis. Ranch House is there, they went under but I still miss their breakfasts.

Sweden House is there, their food was awful...they were in fashion in those days. La Carreta is not there, etc.
