It's interesting to hear that Hope is an artists's colony, I kind of got the overage hippy/granola feel when we were there. I'm not sure how an old elk shootin, chainsaw whielding, atv riding country boy would fit in there BTW, in the game preserve, there are all kinds of signs prohibiting feeding the deer now. I don't recall them the last time we were there, maybe 5 years ago. Anyone that has a garden or landscaping has it fenced.

I really would like to get to know the Clark Fork area better. I might talk to the ATV club about doing a camping/motel weekend there next year. There are plenty of places to ride, it would give me a chance to learn the area and help support the local economy a bit.

I really can't claim to have much knowledge about Hope, other than the great view, a few good restaurants, and the artists' connection. There's a cool gallery in the Hope Market. As for fitting in, any artist choosing to live in NID is propably just as fiercely independent as the rest of us posters, so I wouldn't worry about that! But I think you'll like CF! Check out the Diamond T Guest Ranch, they have nice cabins and great access to the trails on the south side of the river.

I think the actor Viggo Mortensen lives in Hope (or maybe Clark Fork). Definitely adds to the scenery. My husband met him in Sandpoint but he didn't even know who he was.

OK, I'll bite...who's Viggo Mortensen? Wasn't Viggo the nemesis in Ghost Busters or something?

Which is what my husband said.
Viggo played Aragorn in Lord of the Rings among other things. Strangely, women seem to recognize him more than men do.

Oh yeah, Viggo is our neighbor in Clark Fork! Sort of...at least he's on the same side of the river--we think! Toyman, if you've seen the movie Appaloosa, you've seen Viggo. He's a "man's man," and women like him, too. There was a nice long interview with him in Sandpoint Magazine Winter 2005 (not online) where he talked about how much he loves the area. I managed to find it on the interviewer Marianne Love's website, so here it is! http://www.sandpoint.org/cgi-script/....7938001166708
Enjoy!

This is funny--we got quite a spike in "hits" when we mentioned Viggo Mortensen's name!

Anyway, hope everybody is/has been enjoying their weekend! Looks like a pretty one in NID. Our days are still hot, but the nights are bringing in the ocean fog, what a relief...We took the pooch to the beach yesterday, her head wound is healing well, and we came prepared with pepper spray in case we meet any more pugnacious pitbulls...

In a couple of days we will be celebrating that it's been a year since escrow closed, and we became owners of a little piece of paradise in CF! I think it's pretty extraordinary that within the past year so many of the forum posters have managed to either make the Move to ID or made substantial progress --makes me feel good!

Viggo drives a Hummer.

We are having a really nice fall so far. It is not as hot as it was and it is cooling down in the evenings. Some trees are just beginning to change color too. I like this weather.
