Some of the expense is relieved by the circumstances in this crime.

But in others, the cost of justice for the murdered can cripple a poor county's treasury for years and years.

The Daybell/Vallow trial is an example. Everything so far that was necessary to be done was expensive right from the very first, and involved 2 counties. A big part of that agreement CFF linked is sharing the expense with the entire state to lighten the burden, and it's proven to be good.

But only because Idaho is both a fairly low-crime state and because most murders are not complicated. I wonder how well it would work if we had a bad spree of school shootings like some others states have had. Florida, I believe suffered 4 of them in one year.

Imagine how much one of those trials could cost if the killer/killers actually tried to get away and avoid being captured. I think Moscow could answer that question...

Recent news:
The owners of the property donated it to the University.
The university intends to demolish the house as soon as possible, and further use of the land will be determined. At the moment, there's a desire to turn the land into some sort of memorial to the slain students.

"Idaho University officials say they will be tearing down the house where four students were kill3d back in November."

I think they should develop the lot into a little Dog Park for the area residents and dogs.

Better to tear it down now, then wait 50 years. Times are changing. It used to be that after a few years everybody would forget about a crime like this. But now it takes just seconds to Google the address of a home you are thinking about buying or renting and find out the entire history of it, including any crimes that may have happened there.

Yup.
Who wants to live in a house where 4 people were murdered?
There are disclosure laws in some states that require property owners to disclose a murder or a violent death during the sale.

I'm not superstitious, but the thought of walking on bloodstained floorboards that are covered in fresh carpeting creeps me out. Especially if the dead person was someone I knew.

Correct decision. And that land should not be built again.

There may be an additional reason for the demolition. I remember several (CA) court cases that turned into travesties because the defense was allowed to take jurors on a tour of the crime scene. If the house is gone by June (the time Kohberger's trial is supposed to start, or at least the legal proceedings will commence), then there can't be any tours of the crime scene.

What stands out to me about that list of items, is that there's no Cell Phone. I would think that would be important evidence because a lot of the case depends on cell phone data and pings, ect.
Perhaps there's more search warrants to be revealed.
