Hint # 1:

WyoNewk, you have the first part right; the final section of track into Cheyenne was laid by Union Pacific on that day and a train did pull in. The directly related construction project that started the year before was... ?

Well, I think UP track started west from the 100th meridian towards Cheyenne a year before. Is that what you're looking for?

LOL
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

McDonalds?

You must be looking for train station.

I thought I'd read, during my big night of research, that the Cheyenne location wasn't picked until 5-6 months before the track arrived there.

That's a tremendous answer, WyoNewk, but it would have to be an Illinois answer. (The first McDonalds was built on Lee Street in Des Plaines, IL, about two blocks from - and several years before - my very first station.)

But you have it right, it was the train station. Started in 1866, it was finished in 1867 and currently is listed as a national historic landmark number 73001934 (depot). It is self-described (?) as the most beautiful depot in the country.

I didn't know depots could talk, but she-who-must-be-obeyed and I have been there, and we were impressed.

You're up!

Well I see that the thread died a little... so I thought I would just post a photo of the item I picked up today at a local thrift store, since it was a thread topic in here a few years back.

Covey's Little America Wyoming. I'm not sure what age this glass is, but I thought it was cute, and certainly worth the .79 cents I paid for it.
