Sorry to interrupt the thread, but this is important to me and I feel that it's appropriate to bring it up now.

Has anybody in Wyoming every noticed that we have license plates that have only 2 digits? No county. Just 2 digits? A good friend passed today. He had 2 digits. Battaan.

Would that be one of the brown and gold University of Wyoming plates? I have seen several of those around town. They are brown with gold lettering and and have the bucking horse on them with just 2 or 3 numbers.

I'm sure there are others, but the one that keeps popping up with a Google search reads:

"It is illegal for women to stand within five feet of a bar while drinking."

No, sorry, it has nothing to do with the University. Simple plate, just two digits and no county number.

That's the one, I was looking for. Now it's your turn to ask a question.

Were they state/city plates by any chance? I've seen state/city plates (meaning vehicles that belong to state depts. or city) that don't have county numbers and just 2-3 digits. Might even be county extension vehicles as well.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

No. A two digit plate was a Prisoner of War.

That was a trivia question, too, I think. Other than the aforementioned university plates and so-called "vanity" plates, I had not seen anything like that, either. Even "exempt" (city/county/state) vehicle plates that I've seen have quite a few more digits than that. The POW plate is a new one to me. Some states have veteran/Medal of Honor/Purple Heart plates, but I had not heard of a POW plate until tonight.

EH, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend.

That is very interesting, I too had not heard of the POW plates. Is this something relatively new or have I just not been paying attention? Do they get some sort of exemption from the taxes?
