Ive recently developed an interest in wanting to write. I'm not even sure what I'd write about but just the idea interest me. I've always wrote things down.
Dangling modifiers drive me crazier than any other single grammar error, partly because they are so common. I gave up copy editing for a friend because he was so eager to argue with me about everything, and the thing he defended most strenuously was his propensity to dangle his modifiers. Here are some recent favorites (not my friend's, btw):
"As a server on and off throughout my education, NO ONE CARES if you ask for leftovers to be wrapped up."
"Weirdly, having been convinced Alex was dead all the time from episode 1, the final episode left me thinking he wasn't."
"As a conservative who truly cares about religious liberty, Donald Trump's bad idea and rhetoric send a shiver down my spine."
“Removing the lid from her coffee, the steam warmed her face.”
"As a parent of a boy with allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, milk and eggs, you have somewhat of a point."
"After dampening the cabinets and upgrading the crossovers a couple years ago, they sound better than ever."
"As a writer stymied by past success, writers block, substance abuse, relationship problems and a serious set of father issues, Elliott's cracked-out chronicle of a bizarre murder trial amounts to less than the sum of its parts."
All other incongruencies are covered by a blanket "sic."
