We use to have a house mouse like this person. To get our point across to upper management on a topic that needed addressing, we knew where to go. Letting this person over hear our concerns. Works every time. There are plenty of bosses that love to fix things other people have found and then take credit for it.
I think most people have no idea how common it is to create the very manager they DON'T want to work for. As soon as a supervisor decides they don't trust someone or can't count on them to do what is expected (reasonable or not) they start micromanaging them. The more the employee tries to dodge the rope, the tighter it gets pulled. A savvy employee figures out that if they stop pulling the rope goes slack and they get some of their control back again. Other employees never figure it out, blame the supervisor for the rope they created for themselves, and end up choking.

Promote being passive.
Op: Directly listen to the team members of which this manager is but one of. Feedback can light the path. (Unlike gaslighting ).
The pros and cons of contracting are what you are ebbing thru. It's the very essense of feast or famine .
I’ve worked for the bullying micromanager type. Update your resume and look aggressively for another job. It’s time to move on, even moreso if it’s contract work. It’s not uncommon for them to end, as stated before. They didn’t want to hire you FT with benefits, so they’re not exhibiting much loyalty to you anyway. If you don’t get fired, take your beating and find something else ASAP. Sounds like a terrible place to work. There are pleasant bosses to work for out there.
My wife's last manager thanked her for being an employee that did not require micromanaging. Every other employee under him did and it frustrated him no end.

Been there. Done that. But not in the way the OP is stating. They just walk into your office and tell you the contract is ending sooner than expected. I'm not sure what is going on where they are.
Of course we are only hearing one side of the story. OP could be a screw up for all we know.

She has expected to be fired from this job for many months. She posted prior under a different name. They had a performance improvement plan set up for her under the old boss due to the mishandling of a client.
