Interesting statistics... has it ever snowed in the western suburbs if it has gotten down to -7C? Why do you suppose there is such a huge discrepancy between the Observatory Hill site and the Western suburbs in terms of absolute minimums. Even here in Vancouver which is a maritime climate, there is generally only a 2-3C difference between the coast and inland suburbs.

I walked to school several times at -40, in central Wisconsin. In those days, there was no such thing as a snow day.

The air was perfectly still, and there were a few cars that were running, must have been in garages. Their exhaust just formed a little fog cloud down the street, hanging in the air right where the exhaust pipe left it.

With no wind, of course, the windchill is also -40, which is really not so bad. Often there are windchills near that when the temperature is only about -10 or -15.

There were some mornings colder than -30 in New Brunswick, and my '64 Volvo started after sitting out all night.

Weather is the greatest show on earth, and its wonderful to experience its extremes.

-40 plus or minus a couple of degrees multiple times in northeast Washington state growing up. I thought as a boy we'd hit the lottery when dad finally got some power run out to the water tanks to keep them from freezing for the cattle...that meant I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night and go chop ice...

Around -28C in my city. I haven't been in a colder climate than Kharkiv yet.

coldest natural temp was probably 0 when I lived in Springfield, MA. That was a long time ago. Coldest I remember was 5 F in Little Rock a few years ago. NJ might have gotten to 3 F though. Here in NC coldest I've seen so far is 16.

Coldest temp ever was -19 in our walk in freezer at work. It was way too cold, should have been at -10.

A couple of years ago when I lived in Ridgway Colorado. The actual air temp was 35 degrees below zero. I thought it would be "fun" to go outside for a walk. It wasn't.

About -20C in Toronto, though I was actually staying in Scarborough with my great aunt so I can't vouch for the actual temperature recorded in that suburb.
