Several years ago, I lived in an apartment in Arlington, Texas. One day, during the winter, a cold front blew in and the temp was around five degrees, with the wind blowing 40 mph. I tried everything to keep warm. Needless to say, the heater was on full blast. I filled the bathtub with hot water. I turned everything on the oven, full blast. One of the elements burned out. I plugged the front door the best I could, but I was still freezing, and that night, I couldn't sleep.

I decided later, I should've just left the water running and gone to a motel for a couple of days. It would've been cheaper. You should've seen my electric bill. I didn't think of it then, but I should've gotten an electric blanket. I was too cold to think anymore creatively than I already had.

Yeah, that was brutal, and my coldest personal experience, too.

Not gonna win any awards, but down here in South Texas it was 26° that i can remember, but on a trip to Colorado it was 9°F with no wind. Loved those temps both times though!

-23° Livingston County MO during the mid to late 70's. To many moons ago to know the year or date but it was a cold winter morning to be out in the woods cutting firewood.

-21 plus a pretty good wind when I lived in MI.
I remember all the news reports telling us to stay inside. Of course we didn't. How many chances were we going to get to experience that kind of weather?
Obviously I like the cold

Yep, I remember that -25. Although I thought that one year in the mid-80s it hit -26. But, maybe my memory is fading.

-4F.. maybe not the coldest temp, but out for hours riding 4 wheelers along the powerline trails and consuming adult beverages. Made it seem much colder then it was.
Of course that was in my younger years . Now I only snowblow and cut fire wood in those temps ....and here in central Pa. it doesn't get that cold often or last long

I was wondering if anyone here noticed that the engines of jet planes flying in very cold air sounds different than normal? From my recollection, the temps need to be down around -20 to hear the difference.

The coldest temperature I can remember feeling was one morning in January of 1997 (I was six, and these are up north in Prince George, BC) and it was -41°C as my mom was about to take us to school. I was told by her that one day in January in 1991 that it was -49°C and unbearably windy (I could guess windchill must've made it feel like -65°C?).
