coldest temp I experienced when I was actually old enough to appreciate it was -3.5ºC in my backyard in August 2005. Seeing puddles of water frozen solid and the hundreds of beads of frozen dew on my canvas awning was quite a novelty. I don't think it has gotten below 0ºC here since then.
Ice fishing on lake mille lacs in central minnesota back in the early 1990's -43 and -39 i dont remember which time but one of those nights the wind was blowing hard the wind chill must have been all but off the charts (before they revised them down) probibily in -70 or 80 range
The coldest I've ever experienced was -2F. BUT the most miserable was the morning an ice storm hit and my boss called and said I had to come in. Unfortunately, my windshield wipers were broken and I didn't have the money to have them fixed. So that morning I had to go out on the roads with the ice still coming down. I would drive about 100 feet, pull over wipe the ice off, drive 100 feet, etc. I think it took 1 1/2 hours to drive a 15 minute trip. Thirty minutes after I got in, the same manager closed the office because the roads were "getting unsafe". The drive home took 2 1/2 hours! I was so glad when I found another job.
-19F with -73F windchill during January 1994 in Boone, North Carolina.
