Winter storm coming to Indy for the weekend! We haven't even had a total of an inch of snow yet this season but this storm is looking to bring widespread 4 inch snow totals between midnight Friday night and midnight Saturday night. Still some fear of dryer air at the onset, possible rain mixing in during the day Saturday, and convection south stealing moisture but it seems we're definitely going to finally see the ground covered by snow. From the NWS:

At the moment it looks like around 4 inches of storm total snowfall can be expected. Confidence is only medium at best though. SREF means show only around 2 inches. As noted above, the dry lower levels could eat away at the initial snowfall Friday night. Finally, there is some concern that convection well to the south of the area could steal some of the moisture from our area.
Some cherry trees blooming here, odd considering it’s been mild but not record warm. We have had a lack of freezes though and so far the coldest temp this winter has been only 24 which is likely why.
Looks very ominous, but that far out on the operational models is really pushing it and very inaccurate usually. Interestingly, the surface temps, which are for early morning don't look as bad, except in northern Canada.

I don't think we have had the winters most potent cold blast yet but I definitely don't think it will be particularly brutal when it happens, teens here. Could likely be an 8b winter here if we make it through jan, first one since 2016 which I would certainly not complain about. Keep in mind this is an el nino, cold blast during el ninos don't tend to be as brutal in terms of absolute lows when compared to la ninas. I read that once, has to do with the source of the cold air.
Then again I could be surprised, we will see what happens.
Quite a temperature range in Alberta today as a Chinook blows through the south. Currently -15°C in Edmonton at 12 noon.
