Except the atmosphere doesn't stay in a zonal flow forever, it's free to fluctuate.
True, but such fluctuations normally wouldn't be dynamic; in a natural climactic state, the jet-stream would always stay within zonal trends, allowing the Eastern US to have a naturally mild climate. During a Cold Epoch, such as the one we are in right now, the Jet Stream is more fickle, and can deviate to bring intense cold where it shouldn't be.
Nice reminder... We all know what can happen in 4-6 weeks time even though it's a much different pattern overall this year, we really didn't have snow in the area. Maine was getting hammered though last year.
Mostly sunny conditions are forecast thru Thursday with temps reaching the 70's by Wednesday. It looks like moisture will return by the end of the week. A good chance of thunderstorms Saturday with a frontal system.
At this time with this pace of pattern, we should be looking for interesting records regarding latest dates and no cold and snow stuff.
Here's one..
The last time CT waited for measurable snow till after Dec 15th ...
Bridgeport (11 times in 67 yrs)
January 19, 2007
Before that was Jan 13, 2000
Windsor Locks/Hartford (only 7 times in 110yrs)
January 18, 2007
Before that was Dec 28, 1990
