Yes. Maue tweeted that it resembles the set of the January 2014 "Polar Vortex" which was also Midwest oriented. Let's hope it stays just as long as it did then

I hope the snow pack doesn't recede this week. We need it to really get the full impact of that Arctic blas

I wonder how cold the Deep South is going to get?

Right now NWS isn't showing anything overly impressive here for early next week. Forecast high of 53F both next Sunday and Monday. Low of 35F Sunday night.

NYC's first night below freezing and it plunges to 18F/19F. Any frost sensitive remnants of last year's growing season have certainly been finished off.

I forgot how unpleasant cold is. And dressing for it. 10°F at 9 pm with a 21 mph wind (wind chill -8°F). Face stings quickly. 32°F feels cold...

This is colder than many winter days of last February. But don't overhype today and tomorrow; it's shortlived, and neither the daily highs or lows are particularly exceptional, some days of this happens every winter. The modelled mid-January cold looks impressive but it's a bit too far out to say anything firm.
