Nice discussion there. Man, those mountains are having an Epic year with snow. And we've learned that even with a trough digging out west, they will never have it as extreme as Eastern U.S does with a trough digging down.

Speaking of digging....

Short Wave and Polar Front pushing south now.. Nice edge of clouds there. Does this mean I'm going to see clouds again?? I thought was supposed to be clear. Or are they just going to dissipate in the Polar Dry Air?

Snowing in spots and in the Adirondacks. Mountain peaks have a little snowpack now

It's in the single digits and Teens during the day in Ontario and Quebec and that flow is pushing SouthEast. Cold air mass.

Serous flooding along the Mississippi River. Very odd for December/January. St Louis received over a foot (300mm+) of rain in three days

Check out the sharp edge on those clouds. I'm watching an NFL game in Cincinnati on TV and it's overcast, even though it's a blue dome sky here. Very odd.

NWS 7-Day Total:

7-Day Totals

Totals are as high in Southern California as far northern California. El Niño track? Usual pattern I've noticed is heavy rainfall north of San Francisco, light in central and southern California.

Maybe. I think Californian mountains are just a bit above average. Could get "epic" in the coming months. It's not particularly cold in California, just wet.

Are those clouds lake effect clouds or frontal? I guess they're a bit of both. The ones over Quebec can't be lake effect.

Snow seems to miss most of New England; appears to be lake effect snow.

Yes. Pretty standard El Niño pattern. Right on cue.

That usual pattern you have noticed has been the norm so far this fall and it's been frustrating to say the least. I'm very much looking forward to this multiple day/storm, something that hasn't happened in a few years. Literally.

That makes 6 days witchu, Svalbard. It's 9:01 pm on January 3 there as I speak, and it hasn't been at freezing since 9 pm, December 28. Make it another day, it'll be a week. What's really cool is that it hasn't been below 36 F / 2 C all day Dec. 29, 30, 31, Jan. 1, 2, or 3.
