First decade of January in my station. Statistically here January is the coldest month being a bit colder than February but in this year I think February will be the coldest month.
Anyway, the coldest part of winter-the second part of January and the first part of February is still ahead.I hope in the second part of the winter the cold bring more sunny days and less that sleet and filth.

Uhm it can't get any worser than this for a January, not even a night frost yet (neither officially nor unoffically). No snow, no freezes and also hardly any sunshine. More like an extended version of November.

Like I said the cold has been avoiding Europe for the last two winters. I wonder how many years this will go on before you pay dearly with a wickedly cold winter. Annual mean temps just do not stay that far above average year in and year out without a reversal. The long term annual mean is quite consistent. Either you will get a string of lousy summers to bring the annual mean down, or a really cold winter.
