Yes, dunno the ground Is colder than expected. Apparently the snow that fell yesterday in bath stuck straight away and the temps weren't even below 0c. Temperatures were in double figures there days previous too.
That's at the highest peak in New England at 1900 m. Wind chill is -18°F (-28°C) not -18°C. Big difference.
I've been watching the Barrow Sea Ice webcam and it's been ice free until recently when the temps dropped and began snowing. Checking today and it's all froze over. That didn't take long with Barrow having constant wave action. The Fairbanks temps have been well below zero also.
It's well below normal today, feels almost wintry. High was 42°F, normal high 55°F. Forecast low of 19°F.
I was just saying that to a few people, feels just like winter out there. Crisp air, frozen hands, firewood smell, and clear stars.
Look at these wind chils now at 6pm November 5th . Feels like Mid 20s in spots. And yes, that crazy number we see is Mt Washington thanks for mentioning it.

We're at 19 now and still dropping, but the wind is suppose to shift out of the south and clouds roll in during the night and temps climb to 29 by 5am. Won't be too much longer and winter will take hold and the snow will begin and so will the plowing.
High/low temps yesterday were 74F/54F and it was sunny and slightly muggy. Today was 64F/51F and with drier air. It started out clear with a few low clouds and then clouds from the north started to roll in around noon so it felt pretty cold after yesterday.
Thursday's forecast is 48F/36F with thunderstorms, so probably a good chance of sunshine that day.
