Today was the 10TH CLOUDY DAY IN A ROW. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
It's been horrible here, too. Though we've been getting mostly cloudy with puffy skies and small patchy of blue. Long stretches of blank gray cloud feel rather depressing to me but a sky covered with puffy clouds with a few holes and maybe a few peaks of sunlight I actually enjoy.
Eh? That map pretty much agrees with what I wrote lol...
Anyway that map is just a general interpretation, it says Portsmouth is in zone 9a, the same as areas a few miles inland, where it gets much colder in winter (my Mum lives inland from Portsmouth & she gets much more frost & snow than I do) also central London is definitely 9b...
I had to get the data for Southsea from the Met Office as it isn't available online anywhere. They do usually charge though, unless it is for academic research.
It does appear the Portsmouth is an interesting micro climate given all the surrounding water. Even Southampton is colder. However, I think I like those areas just inland from Portsmouth more as they get warmer summer weather.

Did you know the size of Sandy was 1500 miles? And did you know it stalled over PA until finally moving out yesterday? So more than half those days was because of Hurricane Sandy's circulation.

Do you mean ten days in a row with literally no sun at all? If so, then that seriously is very impressive indeed given your much higher averages. Most we've had here in recent years is seven days with absolutely no sun, though I can find ten-day stretches with very little. Edinburgh totalled only 1.9 hours for the first 11 or 12 days of July this year

Thats what happens when you have a Negative NAO and a 1500 mile wide Hurricane come up the coast. Keep in mind, it started getting cloudy from Sandy beginning of Last week and its still lingering but finally in Canada.. Slow moving.

Technically there were some VERY SLIGHT peaks of sun, but no more than 10 minutes. And whenever it did come out, it wasn't even bright since it was still wrapped inside the clouds. And yes Sandy contributed to half of the cloudy days, but even before Sandy they were saying that last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday would be sunny and in the 70s, but instead it was cloudy and in the low 60s.

Yes it does get warmer the further inland you go in the summer, but it also rains more. Portsmouth, like much of the south coast, from approx Weymouth in Dorset to Eastbourne in east Sussex, are the sunniest parts of the UK, but this increase of sunshine is restricted to the coastal strip itself, as during the summer showers form over land & our prevailing winds push these further inland. It isn't unusual to have long periods without rainfall (& parched grass) in Portsmouth, yet where my Mum lives, just 8 miles north, they can have lush green grass all summer long... Though saying that where my Mum lives still has more sunshine than most of the UK anyway
I don't believe it, the sun came out for a whopping 2 hours today!!! A new record!!! But now it's cloudy again... forecast looks sunny for the next few days though.
