Seems like a rather nice September (a bit too cool for my tastes, but still not bad). Only 6 days had no sun and a good amount of rainfall. A bit shocked to see 36 F for September though. Also, the monthly mean temp of 52 F is a bit lower than I thought it would be in the UK?. Our normal Sept mean temp is 66 F here. Still, rather a mild and middle of the road month I would think.
Well, Buxton's mean September temp is a good 2°C cooler than nearby sea-level locations, blame the altitude. So, not a good representative of general september temperatures in the UK. It is not unusual to get into the 30's in September here, nor in June for that matter. Every two years on average will it get this cold in September.
Average Maximum was 79.1 or ~2.9 above 30 year mean.
Average Minimum was 45.8 or about 2.2 below 30 year mean.
A little more of a spread between daytime highs and night time lows than we are accustomed to but otherwise a completely standard month temperature wise. At my house we were about a degree and a half warmer on both ends.
Rainfall and sky conditions were another matter. Hyslop field recorded 0.33 inch which was about 1.11 inches below the mean; we normally don't get much rain in September anyway and it doesn't get going good and proper until early-mid October. But that 0.33 was notable for having, far and away, the highest rainfall total for the month I could find for any weather station in Washington, Oregon or northern California. I personally believe there was an instrument malfunction or a mis-read, my house got a few drops on the 22nd and that was it! September has been almost uniquely dry and had we not had a wet spring and early summer I would be a lot more worried than I am now; especially given we didn't get any appreciable rain in August either, and only a smidge above the average of 0.45 inches for July.
We had nearly cloudless conditions for the entire month, The 21st was the only seriously cloudy day and even then the clouds burned away by 5PM. We didn't get the bright sunshine we would have expected from such a dry and cloud free September, however. Forest and range fires all over the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies conspired to give us a very gloomy month. We knew the sun was out and we could see it shining but a baleful orange was about as good as it got for at least three weeks of the month. At times it got really spooky.
The outlook for the first week of October is more of the same; highs in the mid-upper 70's (low 20's) lows hovering around 40 degrees (5+) with the occassional passing cloud to remind us winter's not far off.
Nor is it. I still think we will have a wet and chilly middle and late autumn followed by 3 months of raw chill with light to moderate and incessant rain.

It's been 16 days since the temperature last went above 60F here (soon to be 17 after today is over). Last time was on the 15th. It's also been 15 days since the last double digit minimum temperature (50F+), though that looks like it will be coming to an end tonight with the overnight low being around 11C so far.

Mean was 62°F, so not too far from your normal.
We got in the 30s as well. 36°F was our lowest so tied with you. Hottest temperature was 87°F.

Are those the numbers at your local NWS or at a home based weather station?
For me...my home based station was (September 2012):
Highest Temp: 86 F (Sept 1st)
Lowest Temp: 50.1 F (Sept 25th).
Mean Temp ?
My closest NWS station was this:
Highest Temp: 85 F (Sept 1st)
lowest Temp: 48 F (Sept 25th)
Mean Max: 75.3 F
Mean Min: 59.9 F
Monthly Mean temp: 67.6 F (+1.2 F)
Monthly rainfall: 6.87 in (+3.52 inches).
Overall this was a pretty nice Sept in the Tri-State area I guess - mostly sunny, warm, and enough rainfall.
Total Sunshine: 272.6 hours
Avg Sunshine / Day: 9.1 hrs/day
Total Days 0 Sunshine: 0 days
Total Days <= 3 Hrs Sunshine: 1 day (30th Sep)
Total Days >= 8 Hrs Sunshine: 22 days
Another very sunny month, although ironically, like last month, the last day was the dullest. Currently as I type we are in a dull patch - the like which hasn't been seen since mid July. Still, with a total of over 270 sunshine hours, I am not complaining...!
Temperature wise it was warm with the average maximum about 1.5C above the long term average.
Still a very dry month though with a total of 5.6mm falling in dribs and drabs across 6 days.
Rainfall: 90.8mm / 3.57" (112% of average)
Highest daily rainfall: 28.2mm / 1.11" (4th)
Raindays: 15
Days with thunder: 1
Days with hail: 2
Sunshine: 262 hours (+34 hours)
Average hours per day: 8.7 (+1.0)
A good mix of weather this September some unusually warm, sunny weather and a number of colder, wet spells made for an interesting month though overall it was again a warmer and sunnier than average month. Was great to finally see a month of above average rainfall; Perth's first since April.
For me it's been the best month of weather all year, I rate it 8/10.
