Stats for the whole country combined:
  • Average temperature 12,8°C (55°F), 10,9°C (51.6°F) is the norm.
  • 85 mm of rain, 68 mm is the norm.
  • 114 h of sunshine, 146 h is the norm.
A full two degrees Celsius warmer than normal, absolutely disgusting. The above average cloudiness and raininess can't begin to make up for 12°C nights at the end of September. Furthermore, this is the second ultra warm fall in a row now. 1/10 and I hope never to see this BS again.

Motueka NZ 41.06"S 8 m asl

Average max 16.9C/62F (+O.9C)

Average min 4C/40F (-1.1C)

Highest max 22.3C/72F

Lowest max 13.4C/57F

Lowest ground temp -8.8C/18F

Greatest daily range -2.4C/18.8C ( 27F/64F)

Smallest daily range 11C/16C (52F/61F)

Rainfall 157 mm/6.3 inches (+37 mm)

Sunshine 204 hours (+14 hours)

A month of two halves. It started off damp and grey, but improved from the middle of the month on.

I'm going to give a 7/10. Probably a bit high considering the start of the month, but it's amazing how quickly bad weather can be forgotten.

Unofficial weather report for Hampstead, London (51.5N 0.1W)

Mean maximum: 18.9C (+0.2C)
Mean: 14.5C (-0.4C)
Mean minimum: 10.1C (-1.0C)
Absolute max: 27.6C
Absolute min: 5.6C
Highest minimum: 16.8C
Lowest maximum: 11.7C
Rainfall: 43mm (-35%) on 8 days
Sunshine: 152.3 hours (+10%)

The statistics don't really tell the full story for this month here: the first ten days were largely around midsummer levels with no rain at all and much more sun than we actually had in our real midsummer. From the 11th onwards though we didn't have a single above-70F temperature and the overall temperatures were actually lower than October 2011. 75% of our rain came in one event on the 23rd/24th - most of the month was dry and sunnier than any of the summer months.

I'm impressed by the low minima, especially since I still only have the 1971-2000 averages to go on which were up to 0.5C cooler than 1981-2010 - recent chilly months have involved low maxima under cloudy skies and minima at or even slightly above the norm.

The national figures:

Central England Temperature: 13.07C (-1.0C)
England and Wales Rainfall: 88.4mm (+7%)
England and Wales Sunshine: 170.8 hours (+18%)

The coldest September in 18 years, though that isn't saying so much as many recent ones have been little more than an extension of summer. As locally, there were stark differences between the warm first third and much cooler second two-thirds of the month, and much of the rain came in that one event which saw up to two days of continous rainfall in some areas.

Wouldn't your lowest "air" temp be higher than that?

Vancouver International Airport
September 2012

Average high: 19.6°C
Average low: 11.1°C
Average: 15.4°C
Highest high: 25.3°C on September 8th
Lowest high: 16.4°C on September 11th
Highest low: 13.9°C on September 9th
Lowest low: 7.6°C on September 12th
Total precip: 5.0mm

I heard on the news this morning, this was the driest August+September ever. Since August 1st Vancouver Airport has only received 7.9mm of rain. For Vancouver standards, I'd rate it a 8/10. Overall very good.. love the dry weather

Burlington,ON

September 2012
Avg high 22c (72F)
Avg low 13c (56F)
Mean temp 18c (64F)

Warmest high 30c (86F)
Coolest high 15c (60F)

Warmest low 20c (68F)
Coolest low 5c (42F)

Overall pretty nice september, I'll give it an 8
Avg high bang on normal, avg low 1 degree above normal.

It was the tale of two septembers, first half above normal, second half below normal,
first half very summer-like, second half very autumn-like.
Only a couple of gloomy days, precip below normal, sunshine above normal,
not sure of total sun hours, Sept 28th edition of Toronto Star indicated 210 hrs up to that point,
so I'm guessing 225 hrs for Burlington, we're usually abit sunnier

I think the lowest air temp was about -3.2C/26F, but didn't have the figures for that day, so didn't put it down.

I posted the ground temp (usually called the grass minimum), because it's always published here- probably because of it's significance in agriculture.

Saskatoon:

Average high: 21°C (70°F)
Average low: 4.6°C (40°F)
Average: 13°C (55°F)

Highest temperature: 28.5°C (83.3°F) on the 14th
Lowest temperature: -2.0°C (28.4°F) on the 26th

Lowest high temperature: 15.4°C (59.7°F) on the 15th
Highest low temperature: 12.2°C (54°F) on the 1st

Total precipitation: 0.8mm (0.03 inches)
Total rain days: 1
(there was also a brief period of rain a few nights ago but it doesn't appear on Environment Canada's historical weather data - wasn't very much though, I doubt the monthly total was more than 2mm)

No data on sunshine hours, but it was very sunny this whole month, probably well above average. I found it to be a bit too dry and sunny for my liking overall, however it was definitely a pleasant end to the awesome summer weather we've had this year. Temperatures were regularly above 20°C (68°F) right up until the end of the month and we've only had three below freezing nights. We had one last day at 20°C today, and now the temperatures are about to go way down and fall is gonna start for real.
