I know that colder winters are almost always snowier (at least here in Edinburgh - last December's record snowfall, for example).

How is this for a winter storm?

http://forum.netweather.tv/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attac h_rel_module=post&attach_id=124650

Unlikely to be that severe but never have I seen a Low pressure system that deep over the UK.

Valid for 16th December, chance of being any more than a Gnat's fart by the time it actually happens: 0.01%.

Actually, a severe storm is pretty nailed on for Friday, for Scotland anyway.

Zzzzzzzzzzz. Wake me up when something like that happens in ENGLAND.

They get 100mph wind at least 435 days of the year up there.

At this rate we could easily be heading for the dullest December on record in Buxton. Just 2 hours of sun in 11 days, certainly no sun forecast for the next week. Will make Jan 2004's 14 hours seem positively tropical.

The storm on 16th here well on the way to becoming a gnat's fart on the latest model runs, well apart from the GFS which shows ridiculous low pressure Armageddon as usual, and always ends up backtracking 24 hours before the "event".

Low of 13°F tonight. Coldest night so far this season. Today didn't get into the 40s but the next 6 days or so are predicted to.

Set the alert for when the NAO and AO ever go back into negative territory. Until then, most of the East will see balmy temperatures with little snow. Very depressing to not have a bright snowcover on the ground instead of the dullness.
