As for the hiring practice. Not hiring individuals with criminal records has to do more with the regulations they have to follow in the state of Nevada that applies to all of their properties elsewhere. You are right that individuals with records should not be inhibited from applying to jobs but if a condition of your employment is passing a criminal background check then they should think twice before applying to that position especially if you quit your current job to do so. In the situation I was referencing the individual had a job where they were supposed to do a background check but they didn't. Were conditionally hired by MGM didn't pass their background check and couldn't go back to their old job at another hotel because that hotel was making sure that they were being done going forward. Apparently this scenario played out a few times. I don't know if they have a re-entry program but remember Baltimore wanted to do the same thing at the Horseshoe. They were unsuccessful due to the regulatory requirements that the casino had to adhered to which superseded local interests.

As for parking at Tanger, they have already made it clear that they will tow cars that are not patronizing the outlet center. I'm sure there will be those that try but they will be in for a rude awakening when they walk out and their cars is gone lol. Apparently signs will be going up soon that outline that new policy.
Yeah. I agree some bait and switch is going on there.

I'm surprised that Maryland didn't have any say in who MGM hires. Perhaps MGM should move their headquarters to MD? I do hope that more states move to "ban the box." Actually I think they should go further to protect non-violent ex-cons under the EEOC.

I see that Maryland joined other states in banning the box a few years ago. Unfortunately, you can still be asked if you have a criminal record later on in the hiring process. Which I think is a potential waste of time. If a person knows they won't hire a person with a criminal record no matter the circumstance, it would benefit everybody if they put that on the app, which defeats banning the box. lol

Maryland Becomes Ninth State to Ban the Box

This is interesting from the Department of Labor:

Quote:
Title VII prohibits employers from using policies or practices that screen individuals based on criminal history information if:
They significantly disadvantage Title VII-protected individuals such as African Americans and Hispanics; AND
They do not help the employer accurately decide if the person is likely to be a responsible, reliable, or safe employee.

I'm sure it will be one or two a day.

Bout time. It's getting close to opening. But I imagine most people aren't going to MGM to shop. So, a few "Coming Soon" signs wouldn't be a big deal I guess.

What does firing people who don't pass a criminal record check and EEOC violations against blacks and hispanics have to do with each other?

There are disproportionately more minorities in the legal system, therefore they supposedly get special protection if they have a criminal record more so than whites. Meaning a business can't use criminal history as an excuse to discriminate. Not saying that is going on here. And please help me if I read that law wrong. Prince George's County is a major minority county. And together with Maryland's "Ban the box" law, it would seem that more ex-cons of color would be able to get hired instead of being turned away. But since Nevada laws rule the country in relation to casinos and ex-convicts, this is all a moot point anyway. If you are arrested and not convicted can you still get denied?

I was just sharing some information on the two laws after the fact. I'm just a little passionate about this issue. Didn't mean to go off topic.

I have been looking for this to happen. it will be a very good addition to Tanger

BTW are they going to build a hotel and additional stores across the street by the office building and 210 exit. Since they have now bought the building, they may change the plan.

Same here. The only challenge I see is that that one restaurant is going to be extremely busy since it will be one of the few (meaning two if you count that burger place) that will be on that side.

The hotel is still on the books as far as I know. Not sure why it has taken so long to get started on it since I would think a lot of hospitality companies would be fighting for that location (between and outlet and a casino). Played right it would be a low cost option to MGM and the other hotel slated to be built there.

Based on the original DSP its only a hotel slated for that site and, from what I've seen on pg planning, there have been no mods submitted to add stores with the hotel but time will tell. If they are smart about they would add stores and another restaurant or two.

The only challenge I see is managing pedestrians across that road since drivers have a tendency to drive aggressively around that section.

Yes, they should seriously plan for easy and safe pedestrian movement.
