Primary home (from which we work/commute) has about 28" right now.....just cleared out....awesome storm. Didn't get crap in the NEK thought where we need it.

4' drifts were fun to clear but it's all done......

Here we go again. We are in the big melt off again. The state did not get that much snow from the storm, but temps have been warm for the last two days and are taking what we got away. Higher elevations may get snow today, but if any precipitation reaches the ground in the lower elevations it will be rain. Driving to work this morning I already saw grassy spots where the snow has completely melted.

Drove to Burlington at 4am this morning and it was raining there...we got a few inches here in Stowe this morning and it's still coming down as snow.

Seems we got about a foot here Fri/Sat.
Since then, as we've had days above freezing, it's been soupy during the day & crunchy/icy at night.
Huge piles of plowed-up snow reached halfway point on road signs (such as crosswalk signage)-they remain, but other areas are reduced to slush puddles...

In the weather report this morning, Burlington only has 2 inches of snow left from the Friday/Saturday storm. It's been above freezing up here since Sunday. Last night it dipped just below freezing, but this morning were are above again. We are not supposed to get cold weather here until Saturday and Sunday, but the Monday the forecast is calling for above freezing temps again.

So out of the 1.5 feet of snow I got here Saturday, 10-14" has melted from rain, fog, sun, and temps in 40s. I still find it comical when people complain about winter around here. It snows one day and we mow the lawn the next week. Sucks. But it was impressive seeing a seasons worth of snow falling in 24hrs. That's insane. Biggest snowstorm on record for Bridgeport and Islip and Upton. 5th biggest for Boston. 2nd biggest for Hartford. 3 feet of snow in 24hrs. Sick.

In fact, VT broke some daily records too. See image below.

Another couple inches here tonight.

As far as VT, nothing from this system tonight but a clipper from the Great Lakes will throw down 1-3" of snow Thursday night. Nothing big. I don't see any big storms on the horizon but the GFS continues to show the 20th-26th as an active period.

Well....given the lack of snow and melting of whatever we do get. VAST etc. is off the table for us this year. We weren't about to register 2 sleds and pay for insurance etc. without any snow. We could get a dumping on the 20-26th and I'll just ride them around the yard, no way we're paying a few hundred bucks for one or two weekends on the trails. Another season is a bust for the NEK......poor businesses.

From what I see on some snowmobile forums, a lot of people who would normally ride the NEK are either not riding at all or going to northern Maine. I can see some businesses going under or barely getting by this year. Seems like real Winters are gone for now.

Couple of interesting articles in the Stowe reporter this week on climate change...not sure it's anything we haven't seen before...

The future of Vermont

That article is fairly close to the estimates the climatologists have predicted for the state. Going back to this mornings weather update, they had the data for the past 5 or 6 years. There was only one year where we had significant snowfall on the ground at this date. The remainder of the years ranged between 0 to 2 inches.
