So I looked at BTV data.. apparently the average temp so far for February is not impressive or even worth noting at -.2 degrees below normal.

Burlington has gotten 5 feet of snow this season which is above normal to date. (yes I know it melted soon after, lol)

They have 1 foot of snow this month(18 days). Which is probably below normal for Feb(not sure)

But looking at the daily numbers.. only 6 days were above normal, while 12 days were below normal this month.

AT 3000' feet in the NEK we had less than 40" of snowfall to date as of late last week and not a flury fell over the weekend...

Rough year.

Wanted/needed to run the sleds as the damn tracks have barely spun this year....thought about running them up and down my 900' driveway but with only a couple inches of snow I wasn't risking it......sad really. No VAST revenue from us this year.....

it's always hard in the winter to get a ton of snow in everybody's backyard but there's been a lot of days where snow has fallen.from 1-6" at a time. I also realize the valleys have not gotten a lot of snow.

I find it fascinating that there's been a ton of snow by the coast but only higher elevations in Vermont..

I asked this somewhere else , I guess I'll ask it here ... what makes a winter for you ? is it snow everyday ? is it Anthony is 0 more than a week ? is it a snow pack for 3 months straight? is it more than 3 snow storms over 6 inches?

I believe we all have a different definition of a good winter. but it is a cool question I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts .

Jay is one of the snowiest areas in the country, so I'm not surprised they have snow. Unfortunately a short drive from there it can be measured with a ruler not a yard stick.

For me, I need significant snowpack of 18"+ min to snowshoe and to occasionally take my inlaws sleds out on the VAST system. I would also like to see the local businesses receive the support like they used to from the VAST travelers, we haven't seen significant snowmobile traffic in a couple years. That is killing things during the winter here.

Plus I hate rabbit hunting with no snow for my buddies dogs.....it kinda ruins the experience

Haha. I used talk to text to post my last message.

That question should be is it temperatures below freezing for a week straight. Not Anthony 0 . Lol

Yeah, for me.. a good winter is below 30 during day and below 20 at night for at least 20 days in the month and at least snow every week with 3 big storms.

Pretty cool to read the blogs from the interns and volunteers that work on Mt Washington. From yesterday. Now thats one sounding extreme there. They have almost 4 feet of snow just in last 3 weeks alone.

Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) – Weather Observer Comments

"As can always be expected from the 'rock pile', the last few days have been a time of extremes. So far this shift, we've seen wind speed ranging from two miles per hour to 129 miles per hour. Temperatures have ranged from a high of 16F degrees to a low of 19F degrees below zero. Visibility from the Observation deck has ranged anywhere from 50 feet to 120 miles. This morning when the winds hit 129 miles per hour and the temperature was 15F degrees below zero, the calculated wind chill was 65F degrees below zero. At those temperatures, exposed skin can start to experience frostbite in less than five minutes.

As I took the picture to the right, I couldn't help but think how harsh and unforgiving the environment is, just on the other side of those panes of glass and Lexan. From inside the building, you can hear the roar of the wind. Loud pops and bangs can be heard as the concrete and steel rebar of the Sherman Adams building contract at different rates as the outside temperatures get fluctuates up and down rapidly. "

I've attempted to climb Mt. Washington in winter twice...my fiancé got to the top the second time we tried but I couldn't hack it - the wind was so intense...I think it was 90mph the day we went and I was deathly afraid of being pushed over the edge lol...it is absolutely incredible though once you get above treeline - Mother Nature does not mess around.
