If there has been a voice vote in the House that passed the bill, what does your "gut" tell you will happen the rest of this week re: the Senate?
I have no source that I can cite for this, but given past patterns in such situations I believe that Levin has laid the groundwork to get this passed by the Senate. So I think once it goes to the Senate, Reid will get it on the agenda for a vote relatively quickly.
basically instead of getting their votes one by one, they first do a voice vote..sounded like yes was the louder vote..republicans than said they wanted a count for a vote to make sure democrats weren't just louder i guess..republicans really don't want this to pass. byrd's death might be the factor to this not being passed..we need 2 more republicans to say yes and from what i heard today, the republicans are doing everything in their power for it not to. hopefully we get the result by the end of today
It is very typical for an actual count of a vote to be requested after a voice vote -- unless the voice vote is agreed to be unanimous. Because extending federal unemployment benefits is a "hot button," House members will want a record for upcoming campaigns about how they voted on this bill in particular.
As for this bill being passed by the Senate -- it only requires a simple majority to pass, not 60 votes. 60 votes are required for cloture -- in cases where the Senate wants to limit further debate. If there is no filibuster to be broken (in other words, if they have a majority of votes lined up), there is no need for the cloture procedure -- so 60 votes are unnecessary.
im in nevada, my benefits have been cut off since 6-02-10 after tier 1. im not able to file every week but they say i will go to tier 2 if the bill is passed. if the bill goes through would i get my benefits retroactive even if i couldnt file the previous weeks?

They'd probably have to review your UI to make sure you're not employed, right? So they more than likely would be retroactive, but after they look into your account. I hate that not all states continue the certification when something like this goes on. It'd make it a whole lot easier on us/them.
That is AWESOME!!! I'm super elated and there is HOPE!
